I download so much stuff to my Netbook - Remi

I download so much stuff to my netbook, and I mean a LOT of things.

I have downloaded Sonic, Mario, and so many more things.

They are fun. There is a Sonic game and Mario. It is like the first Sonic game but cooler.

One of the Mario games is Super Mario 3. It's fun.

I play them in my free time but not when I'm learning.

5th Grade Breakfast- ADA

On the 19th of December the whole 5th grade is going to have a 5th grade breakfast. Basically each 5th grader brings in a breakfast dish and then we all go into Mrs. England's class room and feast. It will be fun trying all the delicious foods that people bring in. I am also excited to eat all of that yummy food. I don't know about you but I can not wait until the 5th grade breakfast comes around!

:)

Wednesday the 18th -Ietta

I am sooo looking forward towards next Wednesday.  What we are going to do is first, (ugh)  we have to take a math benchmark in the morning.  Then, we get to get in our pajamas and go to the school wide Sing-along.  Which is sooo much fun (look at my older post about the Sing-along).  After that we just relax and hang out in our pajamas.  That is why I am sooo looking forward to it.

Benchmark Testing -Da'Naya

Today we took the benchmark test, and it was fun! We got to do it on netbooks. We took the science one (not my favorite). The easy part of it was finishing. When I got finished in my head I had a brain party. When I was finished my teacher sent me to bloggers and here I am. (P.S. I love bloggers.)

Basketball Field Trip - Anaiya

On December 19, 2013,  2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th are going to see a basketball game at UGA. We are going in the morning of that day. Fifth grade teachers gave 5th grade students green slips to bring home to show our parents. It said that we have to wear green shirts to the game. (It also said what we can bring our 5th grade party. I like fruit, so my mom circled for me to bring fruit). Last year when 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th went to the game they provided us with lunch. They sometimes have concession stands  for people that brought money to get something. When we first get there, they passed out pom-poms. I am looking forward to go again!

Should Benchmarks Be On The Netbook - Hayyah

This semester we took our benchmark testing  on our netbooks. We had several comments on how our benchmark testing should not be on netbooks. Netbooks could sometimes be confusing and stressful because of crashes, pop ups, freezes, etc. Some advantages of taking the test on our netbooks are not using so much paper and it's easier to correct. It's good to have a piece of paper and write all your answers just in case you netbook kicks you out.  Good luck to everyone, do your best, and take your time!

Benchmark Testing :,-p -Cassius T.

We have benchmark testing sadly.  And the worst part about it is it's on the netbooks.  Most people like doing stuff on the netbooks but this time once you turn in your test, even the TEACHER can't look at it and help you or look over it. The good thing about it that there are less questions and it's easier to check your work.  Another good thing is that the questions are still easy so most people are going to do good and have a good grade.

Background for the Musical - Remi

Some  of  my friends and I helped paint  the background for the musical.

I spent all day Friday painting the background. It took at least 7  hours to do it. I painted the outside,  Grace did the tree,  and Fred did the snow and snowflakes.

My friends Grace and Fredrick helped me out a lot.

I couldn't do it without them. I told them thanks.

School Musical- Hayyah

On December 10, 2013 , we will be having a

school musical called Happy the High Tech

Snowman. It's about a snowman that comes

out of the blue to learn about technology,

but there are crazy scientists trying to

capture the so called "flaky" snowman. I got

the role as the wonderful mom. I am so

excited to be in the musical. I still have

butterflies in my tummy because I'm so

nervous, even at rehearsals! Good

luck to everyone and break a leg!

School Sing-along -Ietta

Our music teacher is really busy in December, because she has the school musical and the sing-along to do (the musical is pretty long).

Every year we do a school sing-along.  We sing songs like "Silver Bells" ,  "Jingle Bells" ,  "Feliz Navidad" ,  "We Wish you a Merry Christmas"  ,  "Little Dreidel" ,  and even more Christmas songs.  It's on December 18, 2013 in the afternoon.  I am really looking forward to it, because the whole school all gathers in the gym and we SING!  SING!  SING!

Polar Express Day - Anaiya

On the 18 of December, Chase Street School is having a Polar Express Day. On that day some teachers let us wear  pajamas all day. Sometimes we get to drink hot chocolate and watch movies in our classroom. It's up to our teachers to get hot chocolate for our class. Last year my class had a glass mug to put our hot chocolate and we got take it home. I gave my mug to my mom for a gift. Ms. Ragsdale usually has a sing- along for us kids. Last year Roger and Isaiah played the drums.

Christmas Break!!! -Cassius T.

Guess what.  Christmas Break is in two weeks!!!!!  I am soooo excited to go home and stay home for three weeks straight!!!  Plus you get a bunch of presents if you celebrate Christmas.  I hope I get the things on my Christmas list.  Weirdly I only have three things on my Christmas list.  Then on the last day until break we have an awesome  field trip to the UGA basketball game.  Double break.  I hope you are excited for break!

The Spelling bee- ADA

On Thursday Mrs. England's class had their class spelling bee. Da'Naya, Eloise, and won. I It was exciting finding out who made it to the school spelling bee. I participated in the spelling bee and it was really nerve wracking because you had to spell a bunch of words in front of a bunch of people. But we only had to spell very few words that were hard and a lot were easy. And I'm excited to see who wins  the school spelling bee!

The Project-Ietta

Ada and I were doing a project on the Victorian Era.  We just finished Wednesday and we are proud of it.  We had to do 3 big questions: what was it like for children during the Victorian Era, what was it like for a servant during the Victorian Era, and lastly what were clothes like during the Victorian Era.

One of our answers for the first question was, poor children were treated with more kindness and loving from their family, while wealthy children did not communicate with their family as much.

An answer for the second question is, the girl servants were always supposed to look pretty in case any guests came over.

For the last question, we learned that the colors for women’s dresses were deep reds, greens, and especially blue.

That was a little summary about our project!  We enjoyed learning so much about our research.

Spelling Bee - Hayyah

Friday (November 22, 2013) my class will be doing the spelling bee. I already studied but still am studying my words. I hope to make it in the top three. Last year I was in the spelling bee and there was only four of us left but I missed a letter and didn’t get in. This year I hope to do my best and get in the top three.

Bob the Robber 2 - Remi

Bob the Robber 2 is about a kid who is adopted  and was a suspect in a crime.

As he got out of prison, people got sick and turned into zombies.

Your job is to sneak into houses, find money, and find serums  to save the world.

It might be hard, but you can  do it.

It's easy.

Spelling Bee -Anaiya

Yesterday at 11 o'clock, Mrs. Stokes' class had our class spelling bee. When there were only four people left in the class spelling bee, (Alana, Thomas, Andrew, and me) Alana got out. So, Andrew, Thomas, and I were the top three. We forgot that Andrew was moving before the spelling bee. We were going to start that round over again, but we decided to let Alana back in instead of doing the round over. After the spelling bee was over, Mrs. Adams took Alana, Thomas, and me outside to give us our spelling bee booklets. After Thanksgiving break we will start meeting  with Mrs. Adams and do spelling games.

No School Next Week -Cassius T.

Starting on November 22 we have NO school for a shocking 9 days.  I'm very excited to party and have Thanksgiving.  Then a few weeks later we have winter break.  So we have about a month off of school during the school year in the year 2013.  This is the first whole week off  of school for Thanksgiving in a year.  We used to have to  come the Monday that week off.  I like the whole week change.   Post in the comments what you want to do over the break.

The Can-a-Thon-Ietta

The 33rd Can-a-Thon just started this week and we are losing, because we haven't collected any cans.   I don't think we are going to win the field trip to the Athens Area Emergency Food Bank.  One of the teachers has 62 after only four days of collecting.  I think that's a lot!!!
The Can-a-Thon ends on the 22nd of November.  One week left!!!                                                             I hope the school can collect a lot of cans, because that would be a lot of cans to feed the hungry.

Our field trip to the Georgia Museum of Art

Wednesday, the whole 5th grade went to the Georgia  Museum of Art.  It was super exciting because we got to see a lot of cool, creative pieces of artwork. We also got to make memory journals.  Also we got to learn some techniques that some of the famous artists used.  We also got to play a few fun games.  So overall it was a pretty awesome  field trip and I think we all enjoyed it.

Turtles :D Remi

Turtles are my favorite animal  .

"Why turtles?"  you say. Because they're  slow on land and I am too. They're fast in water and I'm fast in water.

Really,  I'm sorta like a turtle.

I have fed my turtle sushi. He did not like it .

I know almost know every thing about them.

Field Trip - Hayyah

November 13 (yesterday) was the 5th grade field trip. We went to the Georgia Museum of Art. I had a great time. We got to see famous paintings and we got to make some of our own. We were broken up into groups and walked all around the building. After we toured the building we found a lady singing opera. We all started to sing but it didn't turn out well. Finally,we got to eat lunch (delicious). Then, we went to the music rehearsal. I thought they had some good bed time songs, I know I almost fell asleep. After that we went back to school.

Opinion Writing in 5th Grade

In fifth grade we are working on opinion writing. We are writing about whether we should eat turkeys or not. Since it's close to Thanksgiving we are doing turkey opinion writing. I think we should eat turkey. Some of my reasons are that you can eat many other foods with turkey. Another thing is that you have more turkey left over.  Some students think that we should not eat turkeys and they're acting like they're the turkeys.

Thanksgiving - Cassius T

Every year on the fourth Thursday of November we the people of America celebrate a day when pilgrims came and had a big feast with the Native Americans.  The main course of that feast was turkey.  Every repeated feast there are certain foods that are traditional to eat.

On this day we (most of the time) eat the traditional foods including turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce, and much more.  Some people have a big debate about how they shouldn't eat turkey on Thanksgiving. Other people eat other foods on Thanksgiving.

Genetics in Science Remington

In science we're talking  about genetics .

It is things that you have in common  with your parents , such as hitchhiker thumb and curly  hair and so much more .

If both parents have brown hair you most likely have brown hair just like eyes .

Working With Decimals-Danaya

This semester in math we are learning about  subtracting and adding  decimals.  It is very easy doing all of those things. Here are some ways to do those things.

Adding decimals:

adding decimals   subtracting decimals:

That's all, folks!

Veterans Day At Applebees - Hayyah

On Veterans Day my sister and her class are going to Applebee's to work. I always wanted to be a waitress, plus all the food will be free for vets and people in the mlitary. I am sure my family will be getting something to eat. I will sneak in with my awesome ninja moves (NOT REALLY) and help with my sister. I hope to see some other people there as well.

Making Clay Busts in ART - ADA

The last few weeks in art class we have been making clay busts. It is really fun because we got to play, and make new things out of clay. We also got to be creative and do anything we wanted to with our busts. It gave us a chance to express ourselves and show off our skills. And all the busts were really awesome, funny, and creative. Next year I am sure all the 4th graders will will have lots of fun making clay busts.

Georgia Museum of Art - Anaiya

Next week on Wednesday, fifth grade is going on a field trip to the Georgia Museum of Art. Next week (on Wednesday) we will have specials as usual. After specials we will board the buses and head for the museum. Mrs. Dean said that it will probably take about ten or fifteen minutes to get there. When we get there we will look at paintings and maybe do activities .  We will eat lunch there and won't come back  until school is almost over.

Opinion pieces-Ietta

We are writing opinion pieces in writing class.  Today we had to write about whether kids (elementary school) should or shouldn't have cell phones.  I say NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!  You may not agree with me.  These are some reasons why: the screens crack easily, they're are hard to find if they get lost, it's bad for their eyes, they make annoying dinging sounds, distracting when doing homework, and could possibly get taken away if the teacher sees it.  Comment if you agree or disagree.  That's what we wrote about today!

Fifth Grade Field Trip -Cassius T.

Fifth grade is going on a field trip to the Georgia Museum of Art.  I am really excited to go on this  field trip because we get to see all of these famous collections of  multi-million dollar art.  Plus after we go to the art museum we get to go to the music hall.  Also we get the day off without class.  So basically a field trip is a whole day of recess.  If you want to learn about the museum then click the link below.

5th grade clubs Remington

The 5th grade has something called 5th grade clubs .

It is where you go on Friday if you have Team Sports you go to the Gym .

If you have Drawing club you go to the Art room .

If you go to Chorus   you go to the  music room .

Last but not least is computer lab where you get to make stuff.

My favorite one is Team Sports because you get to do stuff that you  can't do in P.E .

Hayyah - 4 Day Weekend

This weekend we get to get to get Friday,

Saturday, Sunday, and Monday off. I am so

excited. My family and I will be going to Maryland to visit my uncle and my cousins. It will be so FUN! I also want to go in winter in the snow because I never have been in or seen snow. One time I went there in winter and it didn't snow when I was there but the day after I left it started to snow. Anyway I am really excited!

ANAIYA A. SPOOKY STORIES IN 5TH GRADE

For the past week 5th grade has been working on spooky stories. We also advertised a haunted house. My spooky story is about two girls finding a four-legged monster. The two girls let the monster stay with them for a day until everything goes wrong. I also drew my monster, which really does not look scary. Happy Halloween!

Danaya-Halloween Day

Today is October 31, and  you know what that means: Halloween!!!!!!! That means today we're gonna have fun. For Halloween  I am gonna be Monster High. It comes with a tutu, gloves, tights, leg warmers and a head  band. I will be going trick-or-treating in different places. Today I will be going to the Boys and Girls Club. The Boys and Girls Club are having a party. Really fun right? We are going to have candy, pizza ,and fun games. It is gonna be from 2:30 til 6:00.

VERY FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The TRR Cobb House- ada

A few weeks ago we took a walking field trip to the TRR Cobb House. It was really fun because we got to learn a bunch of new stuff about what it was like back then. We also learned about some of the beliefs they had and we got to do fun crafts. And personally I learned a lot about spies and what it was like for in the Civil war. And i know the 5th graders will love this field trip!

Downtown Rumpus

Every year a few days before Halloween a big parade goes on downtown and all you basically do is dress up like something then walk around in a big group and take photos of other people's costumes.  Then when the parade is over most people go to a packed restaurant and then party all night.

One of my favorite parts of the parade is going to a restaurant and maybe even meet new people. Plus you still get to see cool costumes. If you live in an urban part of town and  go to the Rumpus then almost everyone there you know and hang out with. They even have bands play.

Writing Spooky Stories-Ietta

In class we had to write a spooky story in 4 days.  That means we had to pre-write, draft, revise and edit,  and copy the final draft in ONLY 4 days.  I barely got finished with writing it!!!

My spooky story was about a girl who lost her lucky coin in the cemetery and had to go retrieve it, but on her way back to her house she ran into a zombie.  Her mom was at the house and hit the zombie with a broom and the zombie went away.   They Lived Happily Ever!!!

Please comment even though it was cheesy.  Thank you!!!

The Book Fair- Ada

Last week we had book fair. It was really fun because we got to purchase a bunch of great books and a lot of of cool stuff like posters and bookmarks. It lasted 1 week and there was many book choices. and it gave teachers a chance to get books for their classroom. Also because of book fair the library  has lots of new great books for all the kids and teachers to check out. And I can't wait to get more books at the next book fair !   :)

Halloween is next week / our Halloween project -Ietta

I think I want my costume to be a piece of candy for Halloween.   What is your Halloween costume going to be?

In writing class we are doing a Halloween project by making flyers to sell a fake creepy haunted house.  My haunted house is recommended to witches.  What you do is you have to describe your house then draw a big picture of it on a huge piece of paper.  I am still working on my descriptive paragraph, but tomorrow I will probably draw my haunted house picture.

-Danaya-Stick Dog

I just got a new book called Stick Dog and I am loving it so far! Stick Dog is a dog that lives out in the wild. He has 4 friends and their names are, Poo-Poo, Mutt, Stripes, and Karen. They all go on different  adventures together and their books will sometimes make you very hungry. Stick Dog and his friends are 5 homeless dogs and they all are loving it.They are very interesting books. I am very sure that you will love it too.

Library Day - Hayyah

Every Thursday my class goes to the wonderful library .I love to pick out scary, funny,or mystery

books. We are doing comic strips about meeting

the ghost of our Civil War figure. I am doing

Abraham Lincoln for my for my ghost. We will be

going to the library after lunch . I can't wait to

eat and go to the library.

library Day - Anaiya A.

On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are when 5th grade goes to the library. I usually go to the library on Tuesdays. When I come to the library we go sit at the rug and listen to a story. The last one we read was about Abraham Lincoln and how he was involved in the Civil War. This week we sat at the tables to work on our comic strips about our Civil War figures. The comic strips are about meeting the ghost of your Civil War figure. We will finish this before Halloween. After we start the comic strips we start to check out books. In fifth and fourth fourth grade we are able to check out two books.

Pokemon X and Y Remington

Something big on Oct, 12, 2013 happened for Pokemon fans all around the world.

The new Pokemon X and Y  came  worldwide.

I got the game. It's 40 dollars. That's a lot of money  but it's worth it .

They released the new fairy type, the amazing new 3D battles, and sky battles .

The new mega stone  and mega ring help that Pokemon mega evolve but for a short time.

BOOK FAIR!!! Cassius T.

Basically Book Fair is a thing where Scholastic publishing company gives out all these books to schools and then the kids buy the books.  They have all sorts of books from toddler books to graphic novels all the way up to really fat chapter books.  I promise you that if you go to a Book Fair  you WILL find at least one book that interests you.

I  found lots of books I liked.  The book I got was a dinosaur book.  Sadly now the book fair fair is over but the good thing is that Book Fair will come back in early 2014.

Parent Teacher Conferences -Ietta

I am so excited to see my grades!  Basically, your parents come in and the teacher takes about your behavior, test grades, and any issues.  I am always good and many people are, too.

If you are having trouble you'll be there to discuss you troubles and issues.  That way your teacher and parents can help you as much they can.  So, that is a little summary of parent teacher conferences.  :)

Volunteering at Sanford Stadium - ADA

A few weeks  back I  volunteered  to clean up at Sanford Stadium. It as really fun but it was also really gross because you had to pick up a bunch of disgusting  stuff. You would think that not many people would want to volunteer to clean up a stadium on their Saturday night but a lot of people showed up there was probably at least 100 people there. We did not stay there the hole time but it felt good to clean up after people! :)

Benchmark is Boring -Cassius T.

Ugh. Today we had reading benchmark.  And it was sooo flat and boring.  Usually you finish the test itself pretty fast but then you have to sit there until everyone else is done. Then the teacher says you can read. But you only have time to read for like half an hour. I have many complaints but if you have some post in the comments and subscribe.

Remi - Parent conferences

Parent conferences is what happens  in school that you did good and bad.

It really  is when your mom or dad talks to your teacher .

Mom and dad can find out if you are doing well in class.

If you do great on all you go will to next grade.

But you have  to do your best to pass the grade.

It might  seem scary but it's not if you do go to the next grade.

Book Fair - Hayyah

I am so excited about the book fair. I am going

to get a lot of books. It is on October 14th and it

is on the way. I can't wait. There are going to be

things like video game control erasers, diaries ,

pens, bookmark, etc. I am sure if

you love books or cool things you will love the

book fair as well for sure! I hope I will see a lot of

people there. I can't wait to see you there!

Tests-Ietta

I just had 2 practice performance tasks ( tests in math ) today.  Tomorrow we have a writing test ,but I am not worried about it.  In October we have benchmarks which take so long to finish.  I hope it goes a lot better  than I think it will.

You get 90 minutes on the benchmark and ONLY 1 BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The writing test that's tomorrow is 2 hours and 1 BREAK AGAIN, but I am looking forward to that because I like to write.  I write a lot of poems!

Practice performance tasks aren't that bad.  They can take three days to finish or like the ones we did today were only  5 minutes each.

I hope we have no more tests today!

My School Playground-Danaya

My school playground is so so so so FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have 2 humongous fields for football and soccer.   We also have 3 playgrounds and 2 sets of swings. We have 11 slides, and also a rock climbing wall and things we can climb and shake each other. On our biggest playground we have monkey bars and a lot more i can't even think of. That is how wonderful my school playground is.

-Da'Naya

HALLOWEEN -Cassius T.

Halloween is coming up people!!!!  Halloween is my favorite  holiday ever.  Just imagine a day when you get to be someone different and scare the guts out of kids.  Plus you get a junk load of candy for FREE.

This all started about 2,000 years ago in Europe when people thought that on October 31, evil spirits would roam the towns.

Later in time people believed that an evil god would harm people if you did not give food and sweets.

That is how trick-or-treating came.

Anaiya - Book Fair

Book fair is October 14-18. They have diaries, eraser phones, bookmarks, pencils and a lot of stuff I can't all name! Book fairs have lots of different books, such as chapter books, picture books, 3D books, and joke books. There are a lot of things you can get at a book fair. I usually look at the chapter books when I come into the book fair. Your class will usually go to the book fair to look at some of the things that are there before you buy it.

Remi - What I did over the summer ;]

I went to Disney World and lost my 3ds  some where in  the car  .

My brother Colt  nose bleed all the time he said his brain was sneezing .

My sister Macy got a princess Minnie doll  she hold not let go.

We took pitchers of everything at the star wars area .

It was really fun but we  shared beds =p .

But the down side was we only got to stay for a week :c  .

But we had a good time .

Ada - Our trip to Sandy Creek

When we went to Sandy Creek we were very exited because we got to go one hikes and learn all about microorganisms. We got to learn about were you could find signs of microorganisms one of the places you could find a sign of microorganisms is on a rotting log. Also we got to look though microscopes and see if the water they gave us had anything in the water. And we got to test if you could swim in the water there. We had a great time and I wish we could do it again. :)

Hayyah - Sandy Creek Field Trip

On Tuesday we went on a field trip to Sandy

Nature Center. It was fun because we went

hiking and saw so any cool things. When we

saw a Granddaddy

Long Leg spider the tour guide

picked it up and let us hold it but, they don't

people. After we went inside and looked

through microscopes and looked at fungi and

we even saw a cockroach  up close.

It looked nasty I almost jumped out of mu seat.

I bet you would jump out your seat to unless

you love bugs anyway I had a great time.

I also want to thank the bus driver and the

teachers for taking us on this field trip.

I almost forgot thank you Sandy Creek Nature

Center. It was an amazing trip!

Fun Field Trip To Sandy Creek Nature Center - Ietta

The field trip was really fun!   It was at the Sandy Creek Nature Center and we learned about microorganisms.   We looked through microscopes and went on a hike.  The people that were guiding us were pointing out places were microorganisms were.  It was really fun and I wish to do it again.

Danaya-Sandy Creek

I have some very very cool news, I went on a field trip to Sandy Creek Nature center!!!!

I saw many kinds of insects and I saw a granddaddy long legs and it jumped on me and I got very scared.  Next when group 2 went inside    we saw different  kinds of bacteria and we also saw a cockroach through and it scared me a little because I am terrified  of cockroaches.

But I really enjoyed it.

ANAIYA'S E.L.T. PROJECT

For my E.L.T project I'm doing a project on making a new country. The country's name is Emosewa which is awesome backwards.

We decided that the ruler will be a king and queen. I wanted to have babies for an army with candy and sippy cups for weapons.

Our country will be in the middle of the ocean. I also wanted our country to be under the ocean or in the air but we have to have a realistic country.

We are also still researching different government. The way we are going to build the country 3 D which is going to be cool.

Cassius--Social Studies Research Project

In social studies  we are studying the Civil War.  Now we need to write an informational text about a Civil War figure.

To prevent everyone wanting the same person  we had to close our eyes and pick from a plastic bag.  If you didn't want the person you got you had one minute to trade with people.

I got the best I could but I still really don't like the person I got.  His name is Robert E. Lee.  One reason I don't like him is because he made some bad choices like joining the Confederate Army.  He also turned down being the lead of the Union Army.

The writing assignment is really stressful and kinda boring.  Especially with the person I'm studying.  :(

Ada- Author visit

Have you ever met a famous author? Well when the 5th and 4th graders got to meet one we were all very excited. Her name was Gennifer Choldenko. She told us all about her amazing books and how she got the ideas for them. She also told us stories about Alcatraz and the prisoners that lived on Alcatraz. And she told us how she got the information about Alcatraz. We learned lots of things like Machine Gun Kelly's real name was George and his wife made him do those bad things. It was so fun learning about her and how she got ideas for books and I wish she could come again.

Ietta - Our 3rd,4th,and 5th grade Musical

I am so excited the musical!  I don't know who I would like to audition for.  My favorite part of the musical is SINGING.  This year the songs and script is are TOO, happy.  Most of my friends are really excited as much as I am.  The musical is called Happy the High Tech Snowman.

It's pretty basic , kids make snowman.  Then, the snowman some how (impossibly) comes to life.  Happy, (the snowman) wants to learn about technology.  The kids teach him about technology and one of the kids makes a video of Happy and puts the video on the internet.  Scientists and Reporters wanted to put Happy in a freezer.  The kids knew the reporters and scientists were coming ,so they did a snowman flash mob so the reporters and scientists did know which one was Happy. You know the same old thing there was a happy ending.

We have been practicing the songs and even though the play is so silly I still want to do it.

Remington--parent breakfast

Two weeks  ago was  Parent Breakfast .

It was okay  but it was short .

Most of the 5th grade parents were there.

It was almost an hour .

They came to spend time with us.

All grades have the Parent Breakfast, but

that was the last for us.

Anaiya-Author Visit

An author came to visit us to Chase Street School! It was so cool to listen to what she had to say about her book. One of my questions I had for her was have she ever been to Alcatraz island. She has other books named Al Capone Does my Homework and Al Capone Shines my Shoes. I saw some very cool pictures and heard some very interesting stories. The author's name is Gennifer Choldenko and I thought she was very nice and sweet and I'm very happy that she wrote those stories!:)

Danaya-Chase Street school

We also have a gym twice the size as the library!!! our gym is so big that the whole school can fit in and it still has a lot of room!!!

I love my school and if you come and visit I'm  sure you will love it too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hayyah - How I Like Athens

I just moved from California to Athens,Ga and I really ENJOY it out here. I was the worried I wouldn't like it out here. When I came to Chase Street I was really scared. After a couple of minutes I wasn't scared because everyone was so nice.

I feel like I am back in California ,BUT EVEN BETTER! I made new friends and they are just amazing. The teachers are all awesome and the best teachers ever!!! Thank you all some much for being really awesome and thank you for being so kind to me! (:

Circus Smirkus camp by:Cassius T.

Circus Smirkus camp is a sleep away circus

camp in Vermont. I think they have recently bought a permanent place to set up the dormitories. They teach juggling acrobatics aerials etc. Usually they rent a boarding school

so they can have the dorms. The boarding school I stayed at was in the mountains and the view was amazing. In the distance there were wind turbines and ski lifts.  Vermont is really cool looking.  ;D

Chase In Space

Chase Street engineering club has been working on a awesome project! We will launch a balloon up in space!(how cool is that!)

The process was not that hard... Mr. Sugi started by choosing a good material where the balloon will be put. He chose bamboo because its strong and cheap. Then he ordered a special camera and GPS tracker.

The launch was supposed to be at Sandy Creek Park, Saturday, March 27, but it sadly rained that day. It was changed to Saturday, May 11 at Sandy Creek  instead.

Circuits and magnets intro

Hey guys,

This is a intro of the video i'm posting. In science we are learning about circuits. We did an experiment about electromagnets. We had a battery and had wire and we wrapped the wire around a nail and we added paperclips and the nail and the paper clip attracted each other. If you want to see the video here it is:

[vimeo http://vimeo.com/63164649]

Zumer

Recess laps

So Ms.Thompson is making her class run 3 laps around the playground every day at recess before we play. She's making us run them because she sees kids siting around doing nothing. I like doing them. I think it's a good way to get exercise. Some people don't like them because they think it wastes their recess. I think people should stop complaining and just do them. It's not that long. It only takes like 5 minutes. Did you know that getting an hour of  exercise a day prevents 40% of all kinds of cancer?

Joseph C.

Being Healthy

The fifth grade has been working to be healthy and to figure out ways to to be healthy. Being healthy is important and not that hard. While we're young we need to treat our bodies with good food for you and lots of exercise.

The Physical Activities Guidelines by the CDC  say that all kids should get at least 60 minutes of exercise a day. It seems like its a lot, but if you do 15 minutes of recess, another 15 minutes walking home from school, then, 30 min playing with your friend, you just did your 60 minutes!!! No stress!

In the fifth grade, Mrs.Thompson started the healthy kids club! It is every Wednesday during lunch. We talk about ways to be healthy, what you can eat to be healthy, and other fun healthy stuff.

What are ways you like to be healthy?

-Camille F.

High Museum!!!

On Thursday,March 22,we went to another field trip to Atlanta! We went to the Georgia High Museum of Art. There are many beautiful pieces of artwork all around the museum but we mostly went to go see the famous Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera exhibit.

That exhibit goes all around the world to different museums. And the principal was so kind to let the 5th grade see the famous and beautiful exhibit! 5th grade this year has been really responsible and taking everything seriously, because our CRCT is just right around the corner and we are still having long and fun field trips.

My favorite painting/sketch was Diego’s sketch of himself.

It was very detailed and he sketched himself how he really was and not making himself look better like he really handsome. I also really liked Frida’s paintings because most of them had very good meanings. Even if there was one little bug it would still mean something.

I enjoyed going to the High Museum! It was fun and educational at the same time. Hope I can go back one day!

- Camille F.

Flowers,Sun,And The Cool Pool Water

The fresh air of spring is coming !!!!

It is time to cherish the creations of Mother Earth. Since spring is coming a whole new list of  activities, events, and goals have to be made. If you are like me I have trouble getting out of the coldness of winter and thinking about the blanket of spring.

Red Fish, Blue Fish

This week the cafeteria workers have decided to make Dr.Seuss's birthday extra special! They made Green Eggs and Ham and Red Fish Blue Fish nuggets!

I didn't try any of them, but I heard they were really good. The eggs tasted just like normal eggs. The fish nuggets were good too!

There was also a little bit of desserts! There was Cat in The Hat cake and Fruit Thing 1, Fruit Thing 2.

All of the food made Dr. Seuss's birthday very fun and yummy. Thank you cafeteria!!!

A Trip to Fernbank

On Tuesday, February 26,2013 the whole fifth grade went on a field trip to Fernbank and it was an awesome experience.

When we got there we got into groups and headed for the tour and it was really fun. First we saw a room of jewels and other really cool stuff. Then, we went into the experiment room and there were so many fun experiments! One of them there was a hologram of candy and i could not get it!!!! Arrgg!

After that we all went to the auditorium and a man did a presentation and it was super cool! He made volcano! (But not the vinegar and baking soda kind) It was a really fun.

But, I really loved eating under the dinosaurs! They were so big and it seemed like we were ants!

Finally, it was IMAX time! I walked into the room and the screen was huge! Two stories huge! The IMAX was on the animals in Alaska. It was very interesting and i hope I can see another one sometime! I had a great time in Atlanta at Fernbank. I Cant wait for the High Museum in March!

- Camille F.

Reading Benchmark...

AHHHH! The reading benchmark was yesterday, February 28. It was not as hard but it sure was not fun at all.

Some of the questions were about the passages but most were questions like Whats the verb in the sentence below?, Which sentence is written correctly?,What sentence uses a idiom?

I felt good about it. I think I did a good job. The next benchmark will be the math benchmark. I CAN wait for that one.

Science Fair Projects!!!

Science fair is coming up, and many people are doing many interesting projects!!! Here's some...

My friend is doing which shampoo makes hair stronger!(cant wait to see that one). This student will get hair samples, and shampoo them. Another really cool one is seeing which bridge works best! this student will build three 3D bridges, and will test how much weight it can hold.  This one is my favorite... Which finger nail polish takes more coats to completely cover it! She will take a piece of paper, and she'll have the two nail polishes and will coat them. This one is very interesting! Another person is testing which solar oven gets the hottest! She will make solar ovens and test  there temperature!!!

These are all really great!!! Can't wait to see how they turn out!!!

Sofia C.

New Projectors

Hey guys,

So you may know that the school got new projectors. To be honest I think the new projectors are hard to use.Last time you could  move things with your finger. Now you have to use the pen to move stuff. The good thing about it is that it comes with a wireless mouse and keyboard. So now you don't even need the laptop. Anyway we have had the new projectors for like a week and now I've gotten used to it.BYE!!!

Results Of Battle Of The Books!

The Battle Of The Books test was on Valentines Day! Everybody did great but only 5 got in the final group. The top 5 were:Katie Grace U., Beatrice A., Quinn P., Fiona C., Chandler P.

It was during lunch and everybody was biting there nails... I was not in it but the butterfly's in  our stomachs were intense!!!

The test had 20 questions. And as I heard the test was challenging,VERY CHALLENGING. Each question had all the books as an answer. An example question was: In which book does a painting say "i'm watching you. Tell the truth or else" in large clumsy letters? Do you you know what book this is?...

Sofia C.

Video Game Party!

On Thursday, January 31, we had a Video Game Party! It was a small celebration for filling up our marble jar.The marble jar is a jar that every time you do something good or get a compliment you put a certain amount of marbles depending on what you did.

We could bring any appropriate game (iPod,iPad,board games). Our teacher connected the Wii to the Smartboard, and we played Wii Sports. Most people brought iPods and iPads. I brought my iPod. The day was very fun and for sure going to happen soon again!

            Sofia C.

Crochet Stitch Gallery Part 1

Hi, it is Chandler and today I want to teach you guys how to crochet. Crochet is similar to knitting but this craft uses one needle instead of two. I learned how to crochet two years ago with my dad, Grandpa, and several books.

Here is a video of the first six stitches that I think are most important:

I will be making more crochet videos later on.

The 100th Day of School

On Wednesday, January 25, 2013, it was the 100 day of school!!! We did not do too much but we did do a fun celebration after school out in the playground.

There was animal crackers and popcorn. And we had a treasure hunt! We had to find frogs around the playground. I didn't find any frogs...

They also had a ribbon cutting ceremony for a brand new pavilion next to the playground. Several parents helped! It turned out awesome!!!

Martin Luther King day

Hey guys!

So on Monday it's Martin Luther king Day, so that means no school!!!  I'm really excited about it.It's weird that his birthday was on Tuesday. Some people are going to celebrate .

That's really all I'm going to say. but leave comments below and tell me what you're going to do on your three day weekend.

                                             written by Joseph C.

Tuesday, January 15

On Tuesday it was a very important day at Chase Street, because important visitors came to visit the district came and they came to see how the school is doing. They come to every school in the Clarke County every 5 or 3 years.

The 5th grade teachers asked 8 5th graders to get interviewed by them. I was one of them. The man was really nice. He asked questions like: What do you like about your school?, What do you want to change?, Do you have a lot of homework?, and Do the teachers treat everybody equally? And of course we were honest but everything is perfect here!!! So there wasn't any complaints.

Science Fair

Hey guys,

So the science fair is in March and of course I'm entering. The science fair is basically when kids pick what they want to do like an invention. Then they do it and put their information on a tri-fold  board. After that you take the board to wherever the science fair is going to be. Then the judges take a look at your board. If they like it you will probably win. Any way this year I will be doing an invention. So that's all I have to say. Okay bye guys!!!

Carving in Art!

This week Mrs.Thompson and Mrs.Wilcox's class are working on a really fun project in art. We got a photo and drew it on a piece of paper, then we drew it on our rubber, and now we are starting to carve!!! It feels so good!

After we carve it we will print it! With real ink! I cannot wait to see them all printed out!

Back To School!!!

Hey guys,

So winter break is over and school is finally back. To tell you the truth I pretty much missed school over the break , but now that school is back i'm pretty happy. I hope everyone had a Happy New Year.

School started about a week ago and so far a lot has happened. Like on the first week Ms. Hudson said that Battle Of The Books is coming up. The science fair is also coming up.  So why does every thing have to happen on the first week of school? Okay I know I've  been going off topic but why? I get why Battle of the Books was announced this week but what about the science fair? The science fair is in March and now it's January.

Okay, I need to stop going off topic. Anyway a lot has happened since  school started. Like at stem lab all the computers were replaced to net books and a lot of other stuff.  That's all I have to say so bye!!!

Volcanoes in Science!!

Today in Mrs.Thompson's science class we made volcanoes!!! It was very exciting time! we got into partners and made our volcanoes. First we got a water bottle and built around it with mulch . Then we poured baking powder into the volcano. After that we put powdered cherry jello into it. Next we put dish detergent in and last but not least vinegar! And it exploded!!! The first volcano made by Brandon and Kenny made... little bubbles. But the seconded one made by Ella and Asa went everywhere!!! It looked like a real volcano! Volcano after volcano, every volcano got better after the next! It was very cool seeing the volcanoes erupt.  Imagine seeing a real volcano!!!

Thank you Mrs.Thompson!

-Camille

Battle Of The Books!!!

We are starting Battle of The Books! And this year its coming hard!!!  Harder books, smarter participators, and a bigger audience! There is only going to be five finalists...

Everybody has to read at least two books.  And on Valentines Day we will take a test about the book.  And the five finalists that know the books best will go to a field trip to Clarke Central.  And that will be the district competition. And there will only be one school winner...

The books this year are...         The Borrowers, Deep Dark and Dangerous, Escape, The Cricket in Times Square, Keepers Of  The School, Where The Mountain Meets The Moon, The Red Pyramid, Paint The Wind, War Horse, and Ship Wrecked At The Bottom Of  The World. Those sound like Awesome books to read,  don't you think?

the artist project

Hey guys!

A few days ago 5th grade started a writing project, and every 5th grader gets to pick their own artist to study for a month. I got Pierre Auguste Renoir.

Then in March we are going on a field trip to the High Museum in Atlanta, which I think everybody is excited about.

Well that's all, click the link to read more.
