Zoo Research

Top of the morning to you readers, and danke for reading my post! Today I will be writing about how our zoo research is going. Animals from a to z are being researched and discovered on computers at this very moment in our classrooms! My animal is the red kangaroo. I learned a lot from research that I had no idea was true! Did you know that kangaroo's legs can't move separately, so they hop everywhere? I knew that they hopped everywhere, but I had no idea that was the case!

I am now going to interview one of my fellow bloggers.

Bird: So, how is your research going?

Josie: Great!

Bird: That's awesome! What animal are you researching?

Josie: I'm researching a milky eagle owl.

Bird: Cool! Where does it live?

Josie: It lives in Southern Africa.

Bird: Well, that's it for now, but I'll see you soon!

Josie: Bye!

Well, thanks for reading the interview!

                                        Vaarwel,
                                             Bird

Soccer

Hey guys, I am going to talk to you about soccer! A ton of children at Chase Street play soccer, and so do I! I have been playing soccer since I was 6 years old. On a soccer team there are 8 kids on the field: a goalie, 3 defenders, 2 midfielders, and 2 offense players. The other players sit on the sidelines until they get subbed in. Just this year, 4 of my friends joined my team, so we have 12 players. Our coach is my dad and he is awesome! We just had a game last weekend and we won! My teacher might come and watch our next game; I can't wait!
                                                                Bye Bye,

2 Field Trips

Guess what? WE HAVE TWO FIELD TRIPS IN ONE MONTH! The month is October, and that's next month! (More like 2 weeks from now.) I can't wait! Okay, one field trip is two weeks from now and that's the..... THE GEORGIA MUSEUM OF ART! The second one is..... ZOO ATLANTA! The day that is on is October 22, 2015. I think I might like Zoo Atlanta best because I like animals. I think that Georgia Museum of Art still might be fun because I like art, too.

Georgia Museum of Art

Hello, my people, Tommy here. Today I'm going to talk to you about one thing, our field trip to the Georgia Museum of Art . Even though we haven't gone yet I know it will be awesome. The last time I went was in 2010. Even though I don't remember my favorite part, I still remember how fun it was.

Book Fair

Book fair is coming! Book fair is where Scholastic sends in books and Ms. Hudson sets them up in the library and you can by books at school. Your parents can also come in the morning or the early afternoon to buy books because that is conference week so your parents are going to be there. Book fair has a very large variety of books ranging from pre-k picture books to fifth grade chapter books. You can normally come in the morning. Other than books, they sell bookmarks, erasers, and pencils. My favorite things are the erasers because they come in fun shapes and objects. Its coming soon on October, 13!

Chorus

Hello! At the beginning of the year we got to pick clubs, and chorus was my second choice. (My first choice was engineering but I get to do it in spring.) In chorus, the songs are "Winter Wiggles," "Here Comes the Snow," "Hanukkah Hanukkah," and "Golden Ribbons, and Silver Bows." We have two boys and ten girls. Chorus performs at the dress rehearsal at school and at the actual school musical. I love CHORUS!

SCIENCE

Hello! I am sorry that I wasn't able to write a blog last week, but everything that was happening was exciting and I couldn't think of any one thing to write.

Anyway, I am here now and I do have something to write about. I am pretty excited about starting our science unit because I think that cells are pretty cool. Did you know that they were discovered by Robert Hooke? Or that he called them cells because he thought that they looked like little rooms? Cells are like the building blocks of our body. Speaking of cells, we are going to eat a Cell Pizza today in Science!...Yum(-:

Myakka Apes

Bonjour! Bird here. Today I am going to blog about what we learned in library. We were informed that, not completely proved (like Bigfoot), there is an ape called the Myakka Ape. It ranges from Mississippi to Georgia, and freaked me out, due to one fact: IT EATS HUMANS!!! No creature should EAT A PERSON! The Myakka Ape also eats lima beans, apples, bears, and deer. I don't know why it eats lima beans, but that seemed like a nice diet, minus the bears and deer, and especially PEOPLE! Sorry about the expression in all caps and red font, but this was a lot to take in. I am not one to be completely calm when I am informed about something that lives in my state that EATS HUMANS! Anyway, my best wishes for not running into one of these, and I hope that you have a great rest-of-the-week.
                                                auf Wiedersehen!

Animal Research

Hey guys,

So, I'm really excited because on October 22nd we'll have a field trip to Zoo Atlanta. Before that though we have to do research about our animals. First, we have to pick an animal that will be at Zoo Atlanta. Next, we have to do some research about our animal online and in our books. Finally, we will get on the bus and drive all the way to Atlanta where our animal will be. My animal is an ostrich; they are so cool! A fact I learned about them is that their eggs are really heavy. They are the same weight as 24 chicken eggs!!! Ms. Thompson my teacher's animal was an ostrich, and at the zoo they have two ostriches that are siblings. One is named Henry and one is named Henrietta. I'm so excited. I can't wait!

Au Revoir,
Charlotte

ZOO ATLANTA

We are taking a field trip to.......ZOO ATLANTA! I can't wait. October 22, 2015 is the zoo field trip. Sounds great, right? We are writing projects for it, too. The projects are about animals in the Atlanta Zoo.I am doing a giant panda. It will take a long time to get there, so I'm thinking about taking a nap on the bus. I hope it is really fun. It's going to be a lot of walking. EXERCISE! I love to exercise. So, yeah, that's our first field!

Animal Research

In fifth grade we are doing an animal research project where we choose an animal to learn about that is at Zoo Atlanta. You can learn more about Zoo Atlanta in Ramyia A's post about it. I am researching a Milky Eagle Owl.We have to find information on their habitat, diet, behavior, and appearance. I have been having a hard time with researching my animal because my animal is very unique and not many people know about it so it's hard to find good information. I am very excited to see the owl and just have fun!

Taking Home the Laptops

I am so glad we get to take our laptops home. Last year we had ASUS netbooks, but this year we have HP laptops. They are better computers. They have Windows 7. It is faster. I can't wait till middle school. They get Yoga three pro computers. They flip from laptops to tablets. I love that we can take them home even though I have one at home. I get on Nitro Type and Myon. I think these laptops are awesome!

Zoo Atlanta

On October 22, 2015 all of fifth grade goes to Zoo Atlanta from 8:00 to 4:00. We also have animals that we have to study for the trip. The hard part about that is that we only have three days to study about our animal. Mine is the Asian small clawed otter. I have learned so far that my otter is the smallest of it's species. I've seen other otters at the Georgia Aquarium but not this kind.

Tate Mountain

Image from  https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/61/Lough_Dan_reflections_(27765469).jpg
On Labor Day, I went to Tate Mountain with my family. We stayed at a good family friend Margie's lake house. We discovered anything left undiscovered, and waded in the water from morning to night, and jumped from the diving tower 'till day's end! I worked on some unfinished claymation videos that are absolutely amazing to make; considering that I, for one, am not the most amazing video-maker in the world. I especially enjoyed the making of the clay characters!

I really enjoyed the mountains, and persuade you to try claymation!

                                                                      Cheerio!

The Musical

Howdy, Charlotte again. I'm going to tell you a little about the musical and how to get ready for it!

Mrs. Ragsdale is the music teacher in specials, and she rocks!!!  Mrs. Ragsdale organizes the musical and makes all the costumes, she also makes the movements of the songs and picks what the musical is about. In a musical there are many songs that the chorus sings to and dances to. The people on stage wear costumes and say lines like in a play! You can get ready for it by practicing songs and the dance moves. The musical happens near Christmas as a winter musical. If you like to sing, act, and dance, a musical is for you!
                                                          Adios Amigo!
                                                        Charlotte!

The Civil War

We have been learning about the Civil War and Reconstruction in social studies. The battles that we have learned about are The battles of Fort Sumter, Gettysburg, Antietam, and Bull Run; the Atlanta Campaign; and Sherman's March to the Sea. My favorite battle that I studied is the Battle of Antietam because it's interesting that it was a draw.

Fort Sumter

Image from  https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/00/FortSumter2009.jpg

Over this Labor Day weekend me, my family, and some friends went to Charleston. There we took a little boat out to Fort Sumter.

When you first arrive you get to choose if you want to hear the history talk or you can wander around and see everything else. We chose to just wander around, and we started by looking at the cannons and where they shot the cannons. After we looked at that we went and got on top of a building that the soldiers in World War II built, and we looked down at the fort. Then, we went into the mini museum inside the building and they had a lot of guns, cannon balls, bullets, and they even had the sword that one of the Confederate Generals had when he told them to fire the first shot on Fort Sumter. They also had the tattered flag that hung over the fort.

My favorite thing in the museum was a little clay example of the Confederate soldiers shooting at Fort Sumter. It was so great experiencing that while we are learning about the Civil War. It was so much fun and I recommend you and your family going some day!

Blogging

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ByimkZ9f3Q4/U1vv51b319I/AAAAAAAAA1Q/P9suxyT012c/s1600/keep-calm-and-read-my-blog-241.png
Blogging is so fun so far and cool. Especially with Mrs. Hudson and some of my friends. Sometimes we can write whatever we want but not all the time. Either way it is still fantastic. It takes a creative person to do this but I think anyone could do it. That is all I have for today. KEEP CALM AND READ MY BLOG!

Civil War

Image From https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c9/Civil_War_centennial_issues.jpg
We have been learning about the battles of the Civil War. We found out that at the beginning the South was winning. Then, towards the end the North was winning. The Battle of Gettysburg was the turning point. The Battle of Antietam was the bloodiest battle of the Civil War. At the end General Robert E. Lee surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Courthouse.

Sherman's March to the Sea is when General William T. Sherman went through parts of Georgia to get to Savannah. Fun fact: He went through Madison, GA, but he did not mess it up because he had a lady friend there that he liked.

I think the Civil War is awesome!

FROGGY FRIENDS!

What's Up? Charlotte here!

I am going to talk to you about Froggy Friends, yeah! My Froggy Friend is Mrs. Hudson with my awesome friend Pierce! Froggy Friends are adults who work at the school, for example teachers, specials teachers, and many more! Mrs. Hudson is the librarian. A teacher can have multiple Froggy Friends! We get together every Friday for lunch. You might do something special with your Froggy Friend. Who will yours be?

Charlotte Out!!!:)

First Post!

                                     NOTICE

I'm so excited because this is my first actual post!!! I am also super excited because  the school has just received a mysterious package  that contained a mysterious cubed object that we have just discovered to be a........................
3D PRINTER!!! I am in Engineering Club too, so hopefully we get to use it this Friday.

One last thing before I have to go. (-: Labor Day is coming up this Monday, which means that we don't have school on Monday, which also means that we get an extra long weekend!!

                          goodbye for now, friend,
                                          Amelia

Field Trips

I can't wait for our first field trip. I don't know where we are going but I know it will be fun. When I visited 5th grade last year they said they there were a lot of great field trips they were talking about. They probably left all the bad field trips out. Just kidding! (Hopefully.) Fifth grade is so fun. I am enjoying it, and I will enjoy the field trips more, I think.

New 3D Printer

Hello! Bird here. Today, we discover our newly arrived 3D printer. All of the 3rd, 4th, and especially 5th grade classes are squirming with excitement, anticipating their first chance to use it! It arrived last Friday, the 28th. The engineering club gets to see it tomorrow, which I am part of, so I am so excited! I hope every one of you has a great day!

                      AU REVOIR! (that's French)
                                     Bird

Labor Day

Hello, Tommy here, we are encountering Labor Day. It's a school-free day. Or should I say ... LONG WEEKEND... It's a day you don't have any work because you already have enough work . Anyway, have a nice Labor Day weekend!

Book Clubs

This Friday will be fifth grade's third book club meeting. I am in Mrs. Hudson's book club group. We are reading a story called NightJohn which is about a slave that travels and teaches other slaves how to read. All of the fifth grade book clubs are reading about slavery and the Civil War. Some of the other books that the other groups are reading are Red Cap and Civil War on Sunday. I know that Red Cap is about a boy that wants to fight in the Civil War, and Civil War on Sunday is a Magic Tree House book.

Class Rewards and the 5th Grade Store

In Ms.Thompson's Class (the class I am in), we got to choose a class reward and we got electronics day. That means if we get our parent's permission, we get to bring our electronics to school. Yah!!! The 5th grade store is tomorrow (which is Friday). We can choose to wear no shoes, chew gum, or wear hats.  I am going to choose to wear no shoes and chew gum. You can also spend $200 to sit at the teacher's desk. I think the 5th grade store is awesome.
