The High Museum

The High Museum is a museum in Atlanta that has many portraits, paintings, murals, and statues. There were some murals from a person that the 5th grade researched and his name was Hale Woodruff. He made three murals and the first mural was called Rising Up and the second mural name is called the Court Scene. We also saw work from an artist named Radcliff Bailey who created art based off of his past experiences. The person who made this all happen was Ms.Dean (the school's art teacher) so the whole fifth grade thanks you.

DR SEUSS

Did you know that Dr Seuss's birthday is next Thursday on March 2? Our whole school will be celebrating  by eating food and dressing up relating to his books. Another fun fact I want to bring up is that, he was also a political cartoonist between 1941-1943 and made many that he put in a magazine in New York called PM. He lived from March 2, 1904 to September 4, 1991. He was a great author and made many books. He wrote many political cartoons too during World War 2 and promoted against Hitler and before we entered war asked our country to do something about this madness that was going on instead of sitting back and not caring. He was awesome and had lots of really cool quotes. I hope you celebrate too.

High Museum

Yesterday the whole fifth grade went to the High Museum on a Field Trip to Atlanta wich was a really long bus ride. One exhibition there was called Cross Country it was a bunch of really meaningful pictures from the Great Depression like Dorothea Lange's Migrant Mother. We also saw some really big murals by Hale Woodruff that were about slavery and how bad African American people were treated. But I think I saw only one mural that showed white men and African Americans working together. We also looked at some really cool furniture than looked really comfortable to sit in but we could not or we would be kicked out of the museum. There was also some cool art that we could get in, like little space ship that you could slide down.

High Museum

The High Museum field trip was a fantastic, fun, and tiring field trip. We saw many famous paintings and artists like Hale Woodruff's three murals, and the Cross Country exhibit. The bus drive to the High was about two hours. If you don't know where the High Museum is located, it is in Atlanta on 14th street. We also saw sculptures and furniture. We also received a ticket to go back again FOR FREE, so thank you High Museum for that. We spent about one hour and forty five minutes looking at the artwork. This field trip was so worth the long bus ride, and definitely recommend going to the High Museum for a day. There is so much to look at!! Thank you Ms. Dean and all the 5th grade teachers for organizing and planning for us to go to the wonderful High Museum.

Dr. Seuss!

Hi! It's me Lilly again, and I'm posting about Dr. Seuss comics! Something really cool I found out about in library today is that Dr. Seuss did political comics in a newspaper that no longer exists called PM! If you thought that he just wrote/illustrated children's books, you're wrong! Also, Dr. Seuss' books had messages related to things happening in the '40s! In The Sneetches, Dr. Seuss was actually writing about segregation! The Butter Battle Book, is about the Cold War! The Lorax is about the environment, and Horton Hears a Who is about how you should protect people, even if they're different, and especially if they can't protect themselves!

I think it's really cool how almost everything Dr. Seuss wrote was more than just silliness! I already thought that he was amazing, but now I think he was even more amazing! I'm going to put up a few of his political comics now, but that's about it otherwise. Bye!

The High Museum Of Art

We went to the High Museum on February, 22 with the fifth grade and got to see many beautiful different pieces of art. Everything we saw was real. We got to see the actual murals by Hale Woodruff, and it was amazing. They were huge murals and they each filled up a whole wall. I couldn't believe that I saw them. I also saw the Migrant Mother picture from the Great Depression. I was so blown away by all of the cool art I saw there. Aside from the art I have a brother who goes to a boarding school called Rabun Gap Nacoochee school and I was wearing his old jacket from there. When we went into the elevator a women went with us and asked where I got my jacket and I told her and she said that is where she graduated from.  It was pretty cool. The visit to the museum was fun.

I just read the 12th book of series of unfortunate events. They are really great books. They are about 3 kids whose parents have been killed in a fire. They are being constantly passed from relative to relative because VERY, VERY, VERY bad things have been happening. They had pretty rich parents so they have been left an enormous fortune that their first guardian is trying to steal when the oldest child comes of age. Their names are Violet who is a great inventor, Klaus who is very well read and very, very smart and Sunny Baudelaire who has the sharpest teeth ever, which help them in many ways. This book is awesome and I would recommend it to ages 6 and up. Also there is a Netflix version that if I were you I would watch after reading. This picture right above this is the cover of the first book.

Josh Gibson

Josh Gibson is an African American baseball player. He was born on December 20 in Buena Vista Georgia. He grew up in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Josh Gibson went to a vocational school and later attended Kansas State. He was the second African American baseball player to be accepted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. He also was one of the only African American baseball players to have a baseball card. Josh Gibson also hit 29 home runs in one game which is still a record today. But sadly thus baseball phenom died on January 21, 1947.

Book Review of Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon #1: Usagi - Sailor Moon

Hi! It's Lilly, and I'm doing a book review of the first act in the first Sailor Moon manga!

Sailor Moon, whose civilian name is Usagi Tsukino has to fight bad guys from her past life. She is first turned into Sailor Moon in the first act with the help from a talking cat named Luna, who gave her a transformation brooch. She has to find her allies, a princess, and a precious stone called "The Legendary Silver Crystal". It's genre is manga, and is rated by Kodansha Comics as T, or Teen (ages 13+). It costs about $11.00. It's best for people who like adventure, humor, and a little bit of romance. I'd rate it 5 stars!

Movie trip to cine

The fifth grade is having a movie field trip to Cine. Cine is a movie theater down town that is local to Athens. The movie that we are seeing is Hidden Figures. This movie is a worthwhile educational experience, because it has the time period of African Americans being treated unfairly, and that is what we are learning in social studies. It shows African Americans in the NASA program, that we don't know about. One of the ladies in the movie later calculated the trajectory of the Apollo 11 mission the one that put man on the moon. We will be walking to the Cine, and will be watching the movie, and walking back to school. This will be taking place February 9.

Swim Team ABSC

I am on a swim team called ABSC which stands for Athens Bulldog Swim Club. I am on the Super-Pups with a lot of my friends. I have practice everyday from 5:30-7:00 except for the weekends. I sometimes have dry land at 6:30 which is where we "work out". Most of the time we do different drills like bulldog breast stroke which is where you do breast stroke but stay under water and glide longer. Swim practice is normally fun except when my coach puts me in a lane with people who always pass me.
