Tommy won the performance category, and Frenya came in second for the trifold one. Charlotte and her partner, Olivia C. came in second for performance. Everyone's was awesome! We got to see them before library was over and I spotted some that I really enjoyed! I will be sure to include pics and in a link. ;)

Mega Update!!!

YES!!! My partner and I won the performance category for Book-a-Palooza! Mrs. Hudson told us the scores were super duper close, though. It was super tense for me when the judges were grading.

Now let me tell you about the bloggers' projects:
  •  Me (Tommy) and Spencer's winning video performance about The Jedi Academy :https://youtu.be/Ur5dxu4DJ7I
  • Pierce and Bird did a performance of Escape From Mr. Lemoncello's Library
  • Charlotte M. and Olivia C. did a performance of The Westing Game
  • Penelope and Maggie did a performance about the book Wonder
  • Josie did an art project for The Hunger Games
  • Frenya did a trifold about the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series
This is Tommy, over and out.

Update!

Hola!
Today I am going to do an update on what's going on around Chase Street! So, today Mrs. Hudson announced the winners for Book-A-Palooza, art club is doing masks, engineering club is learning about new tech, and team sports is playing games. The week after next we are having an author visit by Carmen Deedy. I am very excited, because I love her books! Last weekend, we got just a tiny bit of snow! I was with my mom in Augusta, so I was not able to spend the snow day in Athens. In book clubs, we are reading two books, one is Number the Stars, and the other one is Milkweed. That's all for now!
               Penelope

Clubs!!!!

I'm going to write about clubs today. These are the bloggers' clubs:

  • Penelope, Charlotte, and I are in art
  • Tommy, Josie, and Frenya are in engineering
  • There are no bloggers in team sports.
I like art because it is fun. It does not have a seating chart. And we get to make fun projects. We are making masks. It is very messy and hard. Those are some reasons that I like art club.

Book Clubs

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/be/1945-05-08_The_Stars_and_Stripes_Extra_Nazis_quit_anagoria.JPG
On Fridays we have book clubs. The books we read are Historical Fiction.  The people who are in my book club are Josie, Charlotte M., Spencer, Charlotte S., Alayna, Saraya. The books we have read are NightJohn and Esperanza Rising. NightJohn was my least favorite book, because it was very violent. NightJohn is about a slave that knows how to read and goes around and teach other slaves how to. Esperanza Rising is about the Great Depression and Esperanza moves to America and had to work hard at a camp just for Mexicans.

Author Visit!!!

On February 10th we are going to have and author visit!! We have already had this author visit before but I am super excited because she was really funny last time that she came. It is CARMEN DEEDY!!!!!!! Some books that she has written are Martina the Beautiful Cockroach, Agatha's Feather Bed, The Library Dragon, and a book that Mrs.Hudson is reading to us, The Secret of Old Zeb. One of my favorite Carmen Deedy books is Martina the Beautiful Cockroach which is about a beautiful cockroach who is trying to find a husband. I suggest that you read it and other books by her.

Bye,
Josie T.

Update!

Bonjour!

Today I am just going to tell you about what has been going on at Chase and around us, since I am clueless about what to write.

The Book-A-Palooza project is due tomorrow and my partner Pierce A. and I are done! It feels wonderful to be done early and ready to present! We did a stop motion video that was based on the book that we are doing, Escape From Mr. Lemoncello's Library. It looks good so far!

In book club we have started a new book called Milkweed. It is about a gypsy boy in WW2 who is in Poland. It is really good so far and I recommend it.

Thanks for reading this blog and comment!

Au Revoir!

Art Class

Hey artists,
This week I'm doing something in art that I thought was pretty cool. We are doing a picture of an idiom listed. An idiom is a saying that means something else than what it states. We first picked from a basket of idioms then we illustrate them. For example, it is raining cats and dogs. You would draw cats and dogs falling from the sky. I got apple of your eye. I am planning to draw a person with one apple insdead of a pupil.

                                                        Go do some painting,
                                                                Charlotte M.

My clubs

The club I am in is art club. It is very fun. We are making paper masks. It is a very messy project. It is a funny club because of the people in it. I was in engineering club last time. I think I like them the same. They are both very fun. That is my opinion on the clubs.

THE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE

Hey guys,

Today I'm going to blog about the Presidential Debate! I am a political nerd, so I was really excited to be doing a blog about it! First, I'll start with who is leading in the polls:

1. Donald J. Trump
2. Hillary Clinton
3. Bernie Sanders
4. Martin O'Malley
5. Joe Biden
6. Lincoln Chafee
7.Lawrence Lessig
8. Jim Webb

These are the people who are leading in the polls. The debate is getting more and more personal. All the candidates are attacking each other with things they did in the past. It's really Donald vs. every other candidate running. The Republican party is actually beating the Democratic party, although it's really close! That's all for now!
                                       Goodbye,
                                                Penelope

MLK

Martin Luther King Jr. wanted free rights for everyone in our nation. He wanted to do that by not being violent. Martin Luther King Jr. was born in Atlanta, GA in 1929. He was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi.  He is famous for giving his I have a Dream speech. In 1964, he won the Nobel Peace Prize. After doing all  the marching and protesting for 10 years, he got what he wanted. The March On Washington was in 1963 where he gave his I Have a Dream speech. On April 4, 1968 on his second day in Memphis, Tennessee, he was shot and killed on his balcony. The world will always remember his important words.

MLK quotes:

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.

Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase.

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?

Book-a-Palooza

Book-a-Palooza projects are due on Friday! I am so very excited because I really like working on art projects. My project is going to be a Hunger Games cornucopia and last night I finally finished gluing it together. Today I am going to paint it and add the finishing touches. Before settling on The Hunger Games as a book topic, I was going to do a diorama of the basement in the Whatever After book series. I decided to change books because I am really interested in The Hunger Games and I was getting very frustrated with my diorama.

                                                      Bye Josie T,

Spelling Bee

Have you ever heard of the spelling bee? The contestants were Polly R, Benjamin S, fellow blogger Bird S, Grace K, Luke T, Ken'daijah Y, Ned A, Lilly M, Emil M, Carolina T, Jack E, Penelope A, Madison W, Amelia B, Dylan M, Emily H, and me! It was very nerve-wracking. I got out on a word that was very hard that I don't even remember what it was!!! Carolina T won and Dylan was the runner-up and I was in third place. Everyone gets $10 except the winner and the runner-up. Carolina gets 50 dollars and Dylan gets 25 dollars. Dylan and Carolina go to the district spelling bee. I think there might be a bee in the room!

                                                               -C-H-A-R-L-O-T-T-E
                                                                     (did I get it correct?)

Science Olympiad

This year I am in engineering club and if you are in engineering club then you get to participate in Science Olympiad! Last year me and fellow blogger Frenya got third place in the straw egg drop and we didn't place in disease detectives. We didn't like that event because it asked really weird questions about things like child obesity and bad behavior. We even got a medal for straw egg drop though! The events took place at North Oconee high school and it is funny because our computer teacher calls it the death star because that is what it looks like from google earth!

                                                                   Bye Josie T.

Spelling Bee

Hallo,
Today we had our school spelling bee!! Me, Bird S., Charlotte M., Luke T., Dylan M., Jack E., Madison W., Benjamin S., Carolina T., Emil M, Amelia B., Polly R., Ned A., Ken'daijah Y., Grace K., Lilly M., and Emily H. did the spelling bee. Everybody did very well! This was my very first spelling bee, and I was very disappointed when I misspelled worrywart, but I was very happy that Carolina T. and Dylan M. were winner and runner up! They did an AMAZING job, and I was very impressed that they were able to spell those hard words! That's all for now!
                                          Penelope
THE FINAL TWO!!!

Earlier today, we had the school spelling bee! The people that did it were me, Penelope A., Charlotte M., Luke T., Dylan M., Jack E., Madison W., Benjamin S., Carolina T., Emil M., Amelia B., Polly R., Ned A., Ken'daijah Y., Grace K., Lilly M., and Emily H. It was really stressful and long but fun as well! Our parents were allowed to come and it was great to see them here! It was my first spelling bee and it was AWESOME!!!

THE SPELLING BEE

Today was the spelling bee. The winner was Carolina T. and the runner-up was Dylan. Now, Carolina will represent us in the district spelling bee. It was stressful for everyone. That was what happened and my opinion on the spelling bee.

THE SPELLING BEE

Today was the spelling bee. Three of the 5th grade bloggers (Bird, Penelope, and Charlotte) were in the spelling bee but they didn't win. Carolina (who's in 5th grade) won. The prize is $50.00 for the winner, $25.00 for the runner up, and $10.00 for every person that participated. It was going back and forth between Dylan and Carolina for a long time, then Dylan finally got a word wrong. I wanted a 5th grader to win, so I was happy that Carolina won! The spelling bee was amazing!

Bridge Building for Science Fair

In Ms. Upchurch's class I am doing bridge building for the Science Fair. I am skipping the practice because I am blogging right now. Our group leader is Andrew E. he is also a good friend of mine. There are 4 people in my group and the other two people are Soren and Spencer. We are making our bridge out of kinetic blocks. The bridge has to hold up weight until it falls. I can't weight! :)

Clubs

This is what is happening in clubs. The 5th and 4th grade are changing clubs because it is a new year. I am in art club. Before that I was in engineering. I liked engineering a lot. It was one of the most fun clubs. Mr.Sugi is the club teacher. I like him a lot(as a teacher). I wanted to do art because I like what Mrs.Dean does for art projects. That is what's happening in clubs for me.

Book-a-Palooza!

Book-a-Palooza! There are 5 categories: art, trifold, writing, technology, and performance. I am doing the technology category with Spencer as my partner. The book that we are doing is The Jedi Academy The Phantom Bully. Speaking about partners, you can only have one partner if you are doing the categories technology or performance. I left a link to the Book-a-Plooza so if you want to learn more look down there!

Book-a-Palooza

Hello. There is a new thing called Book-a-Palooza. It replaced Battle of the Books. For Battle of the Books you had to read 10 books and answer questions about the books. For Book-a-Palooza you get to choose your own book and a project to do. You get to choose between these projects:

  • Art
  • Trifold
  • Writing
  • Tech
  • Performance
For the project I am doing trifold on the first Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Our fellow bloggers are doing these below:

  • Owen (Art)
  • Tommy (Tech)
  • Charlotte (Performance)
  • Bird (Tech)
  • Josie (Art)
  • Penelope (Writing)
