Not Going to Be Posting For A While

We are leaving for winter break so I won't be posting again until 2017! Its almost a new year and its crazy how fast the year went by. There are many things that happened this year I turned 11, I went to Colorado, I went to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family in Boston and when I was there I did indoor SURFING it was so fun. My big brother went indoor sky diving, and my little brother went indoor rock climbing. It has been a really fun year with my family and friends. I hope next year is just as fun as the year that has passed.

Christmas Sing-Along and 5th Grade Potluck!

Hi everyone! It's Lilly here, and today I'm blogging about the sing-along and 5th grade potluck! It's happening next week (12/16/16) and I'm really excited! The sing-along is where we all wear our PJs and go to the gym to sing holiday songs (eg., Jingle Bells, I Have a Little Driedl, and Feliz Navidad)! The 5th grade potluck is where all the 5th graders go to Ms. Thompson's room, bring breakfast food, and watch a movie, and I'm going to bring yogurt! My pajamas at the sing-along will be my Sailor Moon T-shirt, and sweatpants. See ya!

How my LAST MUSICAL Went

We had two different performances, one during school and one after school. First the music club performed. Our first song was "Can Drumming" in which I was the leader, and also Eli and I sang the song "Santa's on his Way" while the rest of the group did boomwhackers.  When the actual musical started, one of my classmates got sad and scared so I helped out with that. When we got done with all of our songs, everyone commented on what a great job my friends and I did. It was pretty fun.

Projekt 1065

Projekt 1065 is a book that we all got at our school and we are getting to read. Also we are reading it in class, and then we are Skyping the author next Monday. We have been reading it with our teachers in class and it is suppose to have great ratings. In this book, there are a lot of good cliffhangers, and when you stop at he end of a chapter, you want to keep reading the book. In the book, the main character is Michel O'Shaunessey. He is from Ireland, and he is a spy pretending to be a Nazi.

ELLIS ISLAND!!!

In 5th grade we are learning about Ellis island, and later we will do a simulation like we are people escaping from different countries. Mrs. Hudson even had some relatives that came to Ellis Island from Sicily. There were the parents Natale and Carolina Russo. and their 4 kids, Salvatore, Ignatious, Carmella, and Marie were born after coming through.

In library the other day we all got to choose between 3 countries that in the simulation we would have come from as immigrants. The 3 countries were Ireland, Germany and Italy. I got Germany and when I was researching I found out that Germans have a TERRIBLE ship ride unless you're wealthy, then you're in relative comfort but they let most Germans in partly because there were already lots of Germans that have settled here.

Here are some pictures of Ellis Island (there is also a link a video on Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty).

Author Visit

5th grade is having a spectacular author visit on Skype with Alan Gratz the author of Prisoner B-3087, and his new book PROJECT 1065.  We will be Skyping Mr. Gratz, Monday at 1:30 pm. Most of the classes have read more than a hundred pages of the book. From those hundred pages I recommend this book for everyone. I rate this book a 5-star book, although it may have some challenging German words in it, it is so fun to read. He was so nice to sign each and every one of our books by hand, that is 68 autographs. He has also written Code of Honor, Samurai Shortstop, and The Brooklyn Nine.

School Musical

At school we performed a musical. It was called ''December 'Round the World'' and it was on the day of December 6th. It was about different people and places around the world and what they celebrate.  Some of the people in our blog were actually in the musical like Madison W., Lilly M., and Nico C. Some of the places in the world that we performed about were America, Germany, and Japan, and we also sang about Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Las Posadas, Ramadan, and St. Nicholas Day. Personally I think that the musical turned out really well.

Hi everybody! It's Lilly, and today, I'm posting about the Christmas parade today, because it's...... TODAY!! Yay! I'll be going tonight with Mrs. Hudson (my aunt), and my cousin! Anyway, it's always REALLY cool, and has bands, and floats, and music, and candy.......😋😋😋😋 It's always exciting and has the coolest floats.... Yeah, you get the the point that it's amazing. If you're coming or went (depending on when you read this), please comment! I'm going to add some photos of parades from before for the rest of the post.

My LAST Musical!

I have my last musical on December 6, and my part is to sing "It's December 'Round The World" in Japanese. It's fun so far and we are practicing a lot. I really like most of the songs but some are hard to remember. We are kind of excited to sing in the play on December 6, but I'm also a little bit embarrassed. (I'm mostly excited, though.)

Musical

"December 'round the world, December 'round the world!"

Okay, okay, I will stop singing.

The 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades of Chase Street Elementary are presenting a Christmas musical on the sixth of December, starting at 6:30 pm. This is sadly my last musical at this school, and many others as well. So we will promise to put on an outstanding musical. The musical is all about Christmas all around the world. Like Hanukkah, Saint Nicholas Day, Las Posadas, Ramadan, pickle in a tannenbaum, and Chinese New Year.

So why don't you come all down to Chase Street Elementary, and be amazed at the best musical ever!

How to Make the World a Better Place

How to make the world a better place. You can make the world a better place by helping the community, by helping pick up trash around your campus. You can also help end poverty, by giving giving a dollar or two, to a homeless person. Or if you have clothes that you either don't want, or that you have grown out of, donate to Project Safe, and the Sparrow's Nest, or just give them clothes yourself. If you have any leftover food, that of course is not rotten or spoiled, you can donate to the Northeast Georgia Food Bank and the Athens Area Emergency Food Bank. Or again, you could give food directly to someone who needs it. We need to do more of these things, because we need to help each other more. Remember there is always someone in need.

Helping my Community

I am very mad about the results of the election but I am trying very hard to stay positive. I am going to try and help the community to make my world a better place. I can be kind to people and comfort them if they're scared. A lot of people are scared because of the upcoming president. I am definitely also going to try and hold myself in and keep myself safe.

What we can do to make the world a better place!!!!!!

3 Steps on how to make the world a better place

STEP #1
Always be kind to others even if they are unkind to you

STEP #2
Have you ever thought about how, when we get bored, we almost always think about what we can do for ourselves rather than other people? So try to change that!

STEP #3
Treat others the way you would want to be treated, always try as hard as you can, and be an AWESOME person!

Now some pictures!!!!!!!!

Helping Girls!

So, it's Lilly, and this is my first sort-of election related post. You may have heard about the things that Trump has done to and said about women, and if you haven't, it's honestly inappropriate for a blog run by fifth graders, so please Google it. Now, what you can do about it is below!

First, you could make Feminist posters that are inspiring to women and girls. My friend and I have been doing that, and we write, "We Matter" on the top, then draw the female symbol with hair. We also put some words from a meme that is VERY inspiring!

Written/taken by Lilly M.
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/32/Gender-Symbol_Female_dark_transparent_Background.png

Another thing you could do is join me and the same friend on 11/14/16, and wear pink, a dress, a skirt, or a combination of the two!

Finally, you could use ANY of the following hashtags on your social media: #which1gotuhere #menarenttheonly1s #wergirls #endsexism #female=ironman

Thank you SO much for helping with this feminist movement, and if you do any of the things I've listed above, comment on this post!

さようなら!

How to Make the World a Better Place

To help make the world a better place I came up with the idea to help homeless people. My idea is to give homeless people a temporary home and new clothes so they have a place to live and they can get a job till their back on their feet. This would help reduce the homeless population. Plus, it would be a lot more safe because it's keeping people from living on the streets. This would help people all over the world. There are also some places that help people if they're homeless and can't afford food, like The Sparrow's Nest and the Athens Area Emergency Food Bank. I want to do this to help the community.

THE ELECTIONS, THE DEBATES, THE CANDIDATES, AND INTERESTING FACTS ON ALL OF THE ABOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can vote for anyone. Want to see how close are candidates are? Go to 270 to win by just clicking this link right here: www.270towin.com

Or, if you want to watch a awesome Kid President video on how to disagree (it's so good) click on this link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghk-nDJB3Tk

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/9b/US_Flag_Backlit.jpg

The Election

It is five days til the presidential election and so many people are talking about it and they have a bunch of big opinions about the candidates. Also that there have been a lot of drama and kids talking about the presidential election and who is going to win and to be our president of the United States of America. Then people talk about who their parents are voting for and they think it is all cool. I disagree about Donald Trump and his idea to build a wall. Also it still amazes me that people still want to vote for him even though he has said and done things that make him not a good role model.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/27/Hillary_Clinton_official_Secretary_of_State_portrait_crop.jpg

The Election

I am not much a fan of Trump for many reasons. One of the reasons is he is wanting to build a wall if he becomes President. Also he has been accused of abusing a thirteen year old and I'm not a fan of that. I am on the other hand 'okay' with Hillary Clinton. She probably wouldn't be my first choice but she is more on my side than Trump. One reason I like Hillary Clinton is because she is Democratic and believes in helping people. Another I don't like Trump is because he is a Republican and to me it seems like he obviously doesn't believe in helping people unless they're are like him.

THE DEBATE

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d2/Donald_Trump_August_19,_2015_(cropped).jpg
October 19, 2016, was the debate of Donald Trump vs. Hillary Clinton. The debate on the 19th of October was a pretty good debate, of course I did not stay up till 11:00 watching the debate but I watched it till 10:00. For the time that I was watching the debate they were mostly arguing about THE WALL, and drug lords flooding in our country, and they were also talking about gun violence and regular fist fights. Trump multiple times mentioned in the debate complaining that Hillary does not get anything done for how much work she has done over the past thirty years. I am a Hillary Clinton supporter all the way. I disagree with Trump's actions for building a wall, because it is like we are trapped in a giant cage and it is super super hard to get out of it, or for anybody to get back in it. Plus it would just change America in general. I think it is right to get all of the bad people out, but I don't agree that we should build A WALL. He also wants to lower taxes by a lot. I am going to tell you something, if America goes without taxes for one day, America will be ruined. It would take possibly hundreds of years to not be in debt. Plus I think it's about time that we have a women for president.

The Election

The election between Trump and Hillary is close. People are still deciding which candidate  they are going to choose. At my school we are learning about voting and the candidates in the library. Personally I disagree with Trump, I don't believe that America should build and make Mexico pay for even though they are paying for something that is bad for their country. Personally, I disagree with what Trump says and does most of the time and others do as well, but part of that is because he is accused of many things for example Hillary Clinton accused him of not paying taxes even though we have no proof. It wouldn't make sense for Trump not to pay not to pay his taxes because he is pretty rich. What I like about Hillary is she could be the first lady president. She is also a democrat and I like that because she is more towards helping people.

Book Report: Only the Good Spy Young, By Ally Carter

Hi! It's me, Lilly, and I'm doing a book report on Only the Good Spy Young by Ally Carter! It's the fourth in a really good series (the series doesn't really have a name, I call it The Gallagher Series), and all the titles are play-offs of sayings (eg., Only the Good Spy Young, instead of only the good die young)! Before I actually review, I'm going to list all the books.
  1. I'd Tell you I Love you, but then I'd have to Kill you
  2. Cross my Heart and Hope to Spy
  3. Don't Judge a Girl by her Cover
  4. Only the Good Spy Young
  5. Out of Sight, Out of Time
  6. United we Spy

It starts with Cammie Morgan staying in London with her best friend Bex Baxter for winter break, and when they're ice skating she runs into Zach Goode who's from Blackthorne Academy, and he tells her that one of Cammie and Bex's teachers has gone missing. They leave the rink, and run into the teacher that went missing, and for some reason, Bex's parents don't trust him. Mr. Solomon (the teacher that was missing) jumps off of Tower Bridge.

Cammie gets interrogated by an m16 agent, and has no information. She gets to see her Aunt Abby, and then goes back to school for the rest of her Junior year at The Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women (it's really a spy school). The person who interrogated her becomes their Co-Ops teacher. Her teacher actually doesn't teach much for Co-Ops.

As Cammie tries to figure out what happened to Mr. Solomon, she has to hack, and steal, and sneak to find the truth. She has to go on a field test thing, where she runs into Mr. Solomon, and he gets taken.

Cammie goes into Sublevel 3, along with her friends Bex, Liz, and Macey, who all find the diary that was Cammie's father's, and then Mr. Solomon's. She learns that Mr. Solomon DID NOT kill Cammie's dad.

Cammie, her friends, and Zach sneak into Blackthorne Academy, who's cover is apparently a detention place for boys (and is ACTUALLY a school for boys who will become spies/assassins), then sneak into a cave that isn't used anymore. They run into The Circle of Cavan again, and one of their leader's is APPARENTLY Zach's MOTHER! Cammie falls down the waterfall, AAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNDDDDDDD................................. I refuse to spoil the ending! Sorry! Read through the series to find the ending!

If I had to give this a star rating, I'd have to do five, because that's the highest rating allowed, though I would MUCH rather give it a 50 star! See ya!

The Book Fair

The book fair is an event that you can come to and buy books. They have all sorts of books. There  are books for all ages, so if you like books this is the place for you. I got a bunch of books and they were all very good. The week before the book fair, my class went to the library. We watched a video on some of the books that were for sale. I thought some of them looked really interesting, like Took or The Enemy Above. I hope that you got some good books too! I would like it if you made a note in the comments box about what book at the book fair was your favorite!

BOOK FAIR!!!

Next week the book fair is getting set up. It is really exciting because we are going to have a book store in our own school! I am really exited to maybe get the book Took. This book is about an evil spirit who is taking little girls. A little boy named Daniel doesn't believe in it but when his sister Erica disappears he changes his mind. I really hope I can get this book. It seems interesting. Mary Downing Hahn is the author of Took and also many others like Deep and Dark and Dangerous that I have at home.

Mighty Jack Book Reveiw

Mighty Jack is a book that came out recently, written and illustrated by Ben Hatke. Personally I love the book! Mighty Jack is a book that is kind of like a twist on Jack and beanstalk. As in, there is a boy who is having a bad summer, but he's got a good reason: summer is when his mom works all day at two jobs, and leaves him at home to watch his autistic little sister, Maddy. Then, one day they go to flea market with their mom and his sister and and some one gives him an interesting offer to buy seeds. They end up trading his mom's car for the seeds (his mom probably shouldn't have given him the keys). What will happen when they plant the seeds? If you want to figure out the ending you can buy the book at Avid Bookshop.
