The Weekend by Caleb M.

Over the weekend I did some studying for the Matter test, and I did that about for 2 hours! On Sunday some snow came down like a blizzard of snow, and I wanted to go outside and play outside in the snow! But it it was not enough snow to play in! But at least I saw a lot of snow falling outside and it was fun to watch! I wish we could have another snow day and get a lot of snow, and I wish that the snow can stick!

Snow-Free Day By: ARIANA

Wednesday evening, there was supposed to be 3-6 inches of snow. We had to get off from school at 12:30 pm. That part was fun, although we all were waiting for the snow. At first it started to ice really hard. Then it started to rain and ice at the same time. My little cousins thought it was snow. The best part was their faces, you should have seen them. After that happened, in a one-two-three it started to snow slowly, not hard, although then it got a little harder. All of Clarke County fell for it. They thought it was going to filled with 3-6 inches of snow. School was canceled when it was a pretty sunny day without snow.

There Wasn't Snow! Julian

This year I was really hoping there would be snow, but there wasn't. On the forecast it said we were supposed to get 4 inches, but the cloud landed just north of Athens. The good thing was we didn't have school even though nothing happened to make it a no-school day. It was 45 degrees and dry, but still I can't complain because it was a no school day.

Spring Break! By Brighton

I am so excited for spring break! I'm going down to Florida to see my family, and spend some time at the beach! Last time I went to the beach a dolphin got no less than 2 feet away from me! I'm going with my aunt and cousins Eva, Izzy, and Trinity. I can't wait! After spring break we only have 45 school days, and my trapeze performance is right after school ends!

Playing Outside by: Lamar

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="286"] image from wikimedia.org[/caption]

I love playing outside. The things I play outside are basketball, football, kickball, and maybe soccer. I am not a big soccer fan. The thing I like playing the best is basketball like always. I also play football some. We play a five on five football game. When we play basketball, we also play five on five. I always play quarterback when we play football, and when we play basketball, I play point guard. Point guard is the person that takes the ball up the basketball court and tries to give everybody the ball. Those are the things I do outside.

Cafeteria Lunch By: ARIANA

Did you know that school lunch is not very good? Well, it is not because once I found a piece of hair in my mashed potatoes. I am sure it was an accident, but it grossed me out. Plus to me it does not taste good, although some people think it is very good. I wish my parents packed me my lunch. I am one of those people who does not agree on having school lunch. I will be more than happy if you type your answer as a comment on if school lunch tastes good or bad to you.

Valentine's Day! By Julia L.

Tomorrow is.... VALENTINE'S DAY!!! Today is Friday, the day before Valentine's Day. We passed out valentines this morning, and mine were little bunny erasers for the girls, and hamburger erasers for the boys. We only had a few minutes to pass them out, but everyone got it done. We all got LOTS of candy!!! One student in my class passed out little pink and red cookies! They were DELICIOUS!! In art club, we made cool valentine presents that involved stitching and I made one for my parents that  has a pink heart in the middle. I hope they like it! I made a card for my student teacher, and two pens that have flowers taped on the top with a card. I think they liked them!! I hope you have a great Valentine's Day!!

Georgia Museum of Art by: Caleb M.

On February 20th, 2015, all fifth graders are going to the Georgia Museum of Art. I am so excited to go there because I never been there before! When all fifth graders go to the Georgia Museum Art, I am expecting  to see some awesome paintings like the field trip to the High Museum! This field trip will be the most awesome trip EVER in the entire fifth grade! I want to see if they have some more famous people and the paintings that they did! If you have never been to the Georgia Museum of Art, I bet it is pretty cool!

Homework and Why We Shouldn't Have It! By Brighton

I don't like homework. We do not need homework. We go through seven hours of school, so why do we need more work!? We do enough work at school, so I can see no reason but torture. If teachers want us to get our energy out and have fun after school, why do they give us homework? Also, teachers say we need homework, but they never say why! One of my friends from middle school was amazed when I told her I had 10 pages to do in 2 days and said that was the amount she got in three weeks! We do not need homework!image from ioneblackamericaweb.com

Georgia Aquarium Field Trip By-Julia L.

This Tuesday, we went to the GA Aquarium!!! This will probably be a long post, because I have a lot to say! SO! It was the best field trip I've ever been on!! It opens at 10 in the morning, and we went there right then! We split into groups of 8 or 9 people, and a chaperon, and we all went to different places. The bus ride there took about an hour and a half. We were all so excited! When we finally got there, we walked right into the very famous tube!!!! There was a ramp that slowly went along that we could just stand on, and then it would slowly scoot us ahead. It was so awesome! There were tons of fish, manta rays, sting rays, whale sharks, and MANY more types of sea creatures! Then, after the tube, there was a giant wall full of the same fish! My friends and I were so happy and just full of joy once we saw this! Then after a while of looking at this beauty, they let us see them feed the whale sharks!! Their mouth is almost like a vacuum, when it's open! Now, on to the next exhibit!

This exhibit will hopefully be a little shorter.... I forgot what exhibit we went to next, but here is one... we got to see ADORABLE otters, beluga whales, which they have a fundraiser for, we got to touch sea stars, and see many more cool animals! Also in another exhibit, we got to see lots of tiny fish, sea horses, alligators, and once again, more animals.

And I think the Dolphin show, called Dolphin Tales, was my favorite part. They did lots of tricks, and they balanced the people on their noses!! The actual people did a cool show that had to do with evil sea monsters, and the dolphins saved them! It was very AWESOME! I could go on, and on, and on, with this post, but I'm running out of room... But, I hope you get  a chance if you've never been, to go to the aquarium! Goodbye, and thank you for reading this very long post!!

Valentine's Day By: ARIANA

Valentine's Day is coming up soon. I bet I am going to have a lot of fun. What am I going to do? I am going to celebrate it with my classmates from 7:10 am till 8:00 am next Friday. I might bring in some goody-bags or some small little chocolate hearts for my class. What I might bring for my teachers is some small roses with a chocolate heart and a teddy bear. I really am excited about Valentine's Day. I am very curious on what my dad is going to give to my mom. You boys and girls out there be planning on what to give your mom and dad. Happy early Valentine's Day!

Georgia Aquarium by Caleb M.

On an early Tuesday, all the fifth graders went to the Georgia Aquarium. It was a long trip. It took 1 hour and a half to get to the Georgia Aquarium. When we got there, the Georgia Aquarium was still closed and we were the first ones there. My chaperon was Ms. England, and she was the best chaperon EVER! When we walked in the Georgia Aquarium, we went to the Ocean Voyager. They had a escalator to stand on and I was too lazy to move my feet! I saw my fish (Bartlett's Anthias) and Ms. England took the picture with me and the the fish, but it swam away. At least we had the fish's tail. At the end  we went to the Dolphin Tales. They did some awesome tricks. The dolphin trainer stood on the dolphin a took a ride, and the dolphins got a treat after they did their tricks. If you  have never been to the Georgia Aquarium, you should visit there. They have awesome stuff!

The Georgia Aquarium! By Brighton :)

The Georgia Aquarium was amazing! There were so many things to see in such a small time frame! There are multiple exhibits, but I couldn't tell the difference except how cold or hot the water was. In one of the exhibits 5th grade took a picture all together. There was a little girl at the exhibit. She was about three, and when she clapped, we all clapped. When she walked around, we watched her. She was so cute! We also went to the dolphin show. It was really cool! I had a great time and I got to see the animal that I have been studying, which was the Asian small clawed otter.

I had a great time!

My animal for the aquarium was the beluga whale. When I saw the beluga whale, I didn't know that they were that playful. We split up into groups. My chaperon was Mrs.Wilcox, the 5th grade teacher. We also saw my favorite part of going to the aquarium, and that was the Dolphin Tales. That is when these people ride on these dolphins and they do back-flips and twirls, and the dolphins also took the people to the stage very fast. My other favorite part was when this little 3-year-old girl came in our picture and she was like a mini director. Every time she clapped, we clapped. Whenever she pointed at someone, they clapped. I have been to the aquarium four times and I hope I could go again. We also rode on very cool buses called charter buses. They have TVs, bathrooms, and even Wi-Fi.

Testing - Julian

There is a lot of of debate whether there should be testing or not. My opinion is not. I think there should not be testing because I think we have enough learning in the first place and testing doesn't teach us anything new. Another reason is we have homework and that should tell the teachers whether we know the work or not. Also, when we are about to take a test a lot of people are worried and scared. And the tests cost a lot of money. Shouldn't we be buying supplies for the classrooms? The people who are making paper tests are wasting trees, and if the tests are online, you still have to have a person to make the tests which is just isn't very fun for the person. If I took a survey around the school ninety-nine percent of the students would say that testing is terrible. This is why there shouldn't be testing.
