Dr. Martin Luther King

Monday, January 16, 2017 was a day to celebrate the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King. His actual Birthday was Sunday, January 15, 2017. He would be 88 years old if he was still alive today. Try to remember how hard he worked to get freedom for African Americans. He went to jail more than 30 times, not for bad reasons, just for marching and taking part in protests. Dr. Martin Luther King was a great man, and he never ever used violence to get what he wanted. Just remember how lucky we are for not having to go to separate schools or use separate water fountains. So let us carry his dream on...

MLK DAY!!!!!

This past Monday was Martin Luther King Day. I hope you all had a great one too. His actual birthday was Sunday but we celebrate it on Monday. Did you know that also it would have been his 88th birthday? This MLK Day I went to the King center in Atlanta and got to see the eternal flame and the memorial and his and Coretta's burial place in the reflecting pool. This is what it looks like:

And speaking of freedom and equal rights, there will be buses taking people to Washington D.C this Friday to march for women's rights and there will be a smaller one in Atlanta starting at City Hall. I also know that there will be TONS of people and I know that a lot of people from this school will be going too but I can't. But back to Martin Luther King I think that whether or not it is MLK Day, we should always keep his dreams alive.

Martin Luther King

Last Monday was Martin Luther King Day. I think that MLK day is really special because it celebrates a man who had an big impact on segregation. He also helped African American people earn rights and make laws fair for them. Some people were okay with the unfair laws. Many others were not, and many African American people including Martin Luther King were sent to jail for protesting. They would also boycott things that were segregated. Also, white people's things were always nice but the African American people's things were hand-me-downs and broken. But overall Martin Luther King was a great man. Even though he was treated very unfairly he never used violence.

Martin Luther King Day

Martin Luther King was a man who who fought against segregation. On Sunday, January 15 was his birthday and then he would have turned 88 years old. Even though his birthday was January 15 the holiday is on January 16. Martin Luther King fought for equal rights for everyone and taught us to fight for what we believe in without using violence. Martin Luther King went to jail more than 30 times fighting for equal rights and non segregated areas. This holiday was to remember Martin Luther King and what he did for America and what he fought for.

Ellis Island

Tomorrow we are are going to do an Ellis Island simulation. It is going to be really fun because we are "traveling" through Ellis Island. We will be with our "family" traveling through it. My family and I are from Italy in the simulation. I am a single mother with two kids and my oldest daughter and I work as seamstresses while my youngest goes to school.  We will go through the whole process with many inspections. We will have baggage with us with many things in it such as snacks and books. We are going to have so much fun.

Football Drills

Next week football drills start at the YMCA. All we do there is get ready for football season to start up. We run plays and go over defense and special teams. We would normally do football drills with third and fourth graders, but we are not because there are going to be a lot of people playing football. Shamir (Mrs.Stokes's son) is going to play with us this year. He is the only person from Chase that is playing at the YMCA. We also do conditioning to get everybody in shape. Our coach will push us really hard to try our best and give it our all. We get pep talks all the time to try to get us pumped up. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. I think it is going to be a great football season but it starts with football drills.

Series of Unfortunate Events

A Series of Unfortunate Events is a great book series that is made by Daniel Handler and Brett Helquist and illustrated by Brett Helquist. This book series is now on Netflix and the reason I am really excited for this show is because the Series of Unfortunate Events are some of my favorite books. These books are about the siblings that are orphans and slowly find out that life is a series of unfortunate events. One thing that I like about this book series is they usually have cliffhangers, and I am wondering if the show will also have cliffhangers to make it more interesting. If you also like the books you should check out the show on Netflix.

HARRY POTTER!!!

I just finished the book Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It was great and I would recommend the Harry Potter books to anyone. This book is all about the Tri-wizard Competition which is a series of games to compete to get the most points and win the Tri-wizard  Cup. If I were you I would probably read the first 3 books first. The characters are Harry, Neville, Hermione, the Weasleys and the professors. This is an awesome book with a lot of action, and if I were you I would read it.

Ellis Island

Ellis Island day is on the 13th of January. Basically it is a day of things that went on, on Ellis Island. If you don't know what Ellis Island is, Ellis Island was an immigration station back in the late 1800s, and the early 1900s. We will be experiencing what it would be like going through Ellis Island. It should be really fun, and I am looking forward to the 5th grade event. We get to dress up, have luggage, and go through the steps of getting in the United States Of America.

Happy New Year!!!!!!!

Hi everyone!!! It's Lilly, and happy new year! I really enjoyed the holidays this year, and one thing I got this year was Super Mario Maker for 3DS!!! I hope you enjoyed everything too! Anyway, so I also want to give you a bit of stuff about new years! I learned to play Auld Lang Syne by ear on the piano, in key of F, F#, C, C#, and A! I enjoyed playing it with my Dad on piano during break! I stayed up until midnight, of course, and set off sparklers and did all sorts of noise-makers!! Tell me what you did this year in the comments! here's a link to Auld Lang Syne on youtube! Bye!! 😄😄😄

Ellis Island

Here at Chase Street Elementary, we are learning about Ellis Island. Ellis Island was where you stopped if you wanted to  immigrate to America. Some facts about Ellis Island are about twelve million immigrants went through Ellis Island. Another fact about Ellis Island is that if you were sick at Ellis Island you would go to a quarantined facility on a different island and wait until a ship came and sent you back to your homeland. Also, at our school we are doing an Ellis Island simulation. The roles you can have are mother, father, or child, and the adults can have jobs, for example, carpenter, farmer, or (if you're a woman) seamstress.

Christmas Was Great

Christmas was great! I hung out with my family. This is the one year I got pretty expensive presents for family members. I got my dad some drawing/sketching materials and also a candle and a sketch book. For my mom, I got a book and some of her favorite cookies (thin mints), some lavender shower things, and lastly a candle. For my little brother, I got a toy car thing that spins really fast and also a toothbrush. For my big brother, he said he didn't want anything, so I had no idea what to get him. So I got him some jerky because he likes jerky. For my grandma, my mom got her some pajamas. Here are a few things I got for Christmas: first, I got a bag for swim team and also a kick board, goggles, and a new swimming suit. I also got some new slides with lots of socks. Next I got a lot of books. The next thing that I got is a phone, a loft bed, a huge beanbag, and a Bluetooth speaker. The Bluetooth speaker has cool multi-colored lights that are disco lights. Lastly I got a lot of origami things and craft supplies. Christmas was great this year!

National Championship

The National Championship is coming up on January 9, and the two teams that are playing are Alabama vs Clemson. I think is is going to be a good game but my opinion is that Alabama is going to win because they have some really key players like Jalen Hurts, Calvin Ridley, and Eddie Jackson, but Clemson has Deshaun Watson and Wayne Gallman. I don't know how it is going to turn out, but I hope that Alabama comes out on top. I know that a lot of people wanted that rematch and they got it, and since Deshaun Watson is a Senior, he wants to go out on top like Peyton Manning did.

2017

Oh yeah, 2017!!!!! It's finally here. It is officially 2017. I hope you all are having a great start to the New Year, and I hope you have already started your New Years resolution. The ball-drop this year was crazy awesome, and fun. I hope everybody got what they've been wanting for a long time, but you should know that even if you didn't get what you wanted, you should still be grateful for what you have. Some kids around the world don't even have food or shelter, or nice clothing to wear. It would be crazy to them if we weren't wishing for food. Instead we are wishing for hover-boards, computers, TVs, 3DS, Pokemon cards, and MP3 players. So what I am asking from you is to just be grateful for what you have. 😃😃😃
