Red Cap Chapters 1-5

A kid named Ransom J. Powell wants to fight for the Union but he can't. Later on Captain Jaroe visits Frostburg.  Captain Jaroe tells Ranse to beat a drum so he can see if he's a good drummer boy for the union. Sure enough he passes the test.

When he gets there he sees the the other drummer boy's name is Danny. Later it was time to do their calls like retreat and tattoo. Retreat was Ranse's favorite. R.J didn't tell his parents before going to the army. That's why he didn't go home for a vacation when the captain said he should. R.J just wrote a letter to his parents.

Ranse's feelings are pretty sad because his friends keep dying. Ranse beats the drum for the first time and something bad happens. Poor Ranse. Danny just died Who will be next?

  1. Nice job with this summary - maybe you should come teach my fourth graders how to write a book review - no just kidding! Can I have permission to use this in class as an example?

  2. [...] Zumer decided to share more about the book he is reading in his book group, a novel called Red Cap by G. Clifton Wisler. 3. Red Cap sounds like a sad book! Can you imagine going off to war in just a couple of years when you are 13? The book groups (fiction or fact) are such a great way to learn the history and get a "feel" for the time period. Good review! It makes me want to know more :-).

  4. Wonderful summary! This would really capture a potential reader's attention. If I weren't reading Red Cap already, this review would definitely convince me to!
