Chase In Space

Chase Street engineering club has been working on a awesome project! We will launch a balloon up in space!(how cool is that!)

The process was not that hard... Mr. Sugi started by choosing a good material where the balloon will be put. He chose bamboo because its strong and cheap. Then he ordered a special camera and GPS tracker.

The launch was supposed to be at Sandy Creek Park, Saturday, March 27, but it sadly rained that day. It was changed to Saturday, May 11 at Sandy Creek  instead.

Circuits and magnets intro

Hey guys,

This is a intro of the video i'm posting. In science we are learning about circuits. We did an experiment about electromagnets. We had a battery and had wire and we wrapped the wire around a nail and we added paperclips and the nail and the paper clip attracted each other. If you want to see the video here it is:

Recess laps

So Ms.Thompson is making her class run 3 laps around the playground every day at recess before we play. She's making us run them because she sees kids siting around doing nothing. I like doing them. I think it's a good way to get exercise. Some people don't like them because they think it wastes their recess. I think people should stop complaining and just do them. It's not that long. It only takes like 5 minutes. Did you know that getting an hour of  exercise a day prevents 40% of all kinds of cancer?

Being Healthy

The fifth grade has been working to be healthy and to figure out ways to to be healthy. Being healthy is important and not that hard. While we're young we need to treat our bodies with good food for you and lots of exercise.

The Physical Activities Guidelines by the CDC  say that all kids should get at least 60 minutes of exercise a day. It seems like its a lot, but if you do 15 minutes of recess, another 15 minutes walking home from school, then, 30 min playing with your friend, you just did your 60 minutes!!! No stress!

In the fifth grade, Mrs.Thompson started the healthy kids club! It is every Wednesday during lunch. We talk about ways to be healthy, what you can eat to be healthy, and other fun healthy stuff.

What are ways you like to be healthy?

High Museum!!!

On Thursday,March 22,we went to another field trip to Atlanta! We went to the Georgia High Museum of Art. There are many beautiful pieces of artwork all around the museum but we mostly went to go see the famous Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera exhibit.

That exhibit goes all around the world to different museums. And the principal was so kind to let the 5th grade see the famous and beautiful exhibit! 5th grade this year has been really responsible and taking everything seriously, because our CRCT is just right around the corner and we are still having long and fun field trips.

My favorite painting/sketch was Diego’s sketch of himself.

It was very detailed and he sketched himself how he really was and not making himself look better like he really handsome. I also really liked Frida’s paintings because most of them had very good meanings. Even if there was one little bug it would still mean something.

I enjoyed going to the High Museum! It was fun and educational at the same time. Hope I can go back one day!
