Spring Break!!

I am so excited for spring break, I am traveling to California.....(I think). I will be meeting my grandparents. I am also very excited for warm weather for once. I am glad to take a break from school and all the activities that happen every day, but I will miss my cute puppies!! Play shows are over and I am kind of glad to not be wiping loads of makeup off my face at 11 at night. My friends Pierce and Josie are going to Disney World and I'm very jealous. Polly is going to Saint Simons. What are you doing for spring break?

The Holocaust

Hallo
          Today I am blogging about the Holocaust. The Holocaust was just about the most depressing that ever happened in history. During the Holocaust, A LOT of Jewish people died, all because of a man and his army. That man was Adolf Hitler. That army was the Nazis. The Holocaust was a terrible, terrible time. Many Jewish people were killed, starved, put in Concentration Camps, and put in the ghetto. The Holocaust started with Hitler blaming the Jews for Germany's failure in World War 1. He thought that they were the reason Germany was severely punished. One girl who was caught in the middle of the Holocaust was Anne Frank. Anne Frank's family decided to hide in the apartment above Anne's father's former work. They were found on August 4, 1944. They shared their small apartment attic with a family of Dutch Jews, the Pfeffer family. The Frank and Pfeffer family were found by the Gestapo [German Secret State Police.] They were sent to a Concentration Camp, where Anne died of the sickness typhus. Her mother died of starvation, she believed her father was dead, and her sister also died of typhus. She was only 16. This morning, we read about some of the children who died in the Holocaust, and then wrote letters to them. What I mean by "wrote letters" is we wrote pretend letters to their ghosts. Most of the children were killed in the gas chambers at Concentration Camps. The Holocaust was probably one of the most depressing times in history. We as Americans need to discuss the Holocaust, so something like it doesn't happen again.

I'm Back!

Hallo! Bonjour! The great Tommy is back from Europe! Just so you know Paris and Germany was great! Le Eiffel Tower was awesome! The Mona Lisa was crowded but cool. The hotels that I stayed at felt first class. The views I saw from the train and Eiffel Tower were beautiful, just as the art work we saw at the Louvre. The Notre Dame made me feel holy even though I was away from the church that I go to. I would recommend a trip to Paris anytime after the time I was there.

Dr. Seuss Week

We will get to dress up for all the days of the week, like wearing our craziest socks on Fox in Socks day, wear our favorite hat on Cat in the Hat day, and other awesome things to do next week! I am so psyched!

World War 2

World War 2 was September 1, 1939-September 2, 1945. World War 2 started when Germany attacked Poland. The United States joined the war in 1941 when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. They declared war on Japan. Three days later, Germany and Italy declared war on the United States. The Axis Powers were Germany, Italy, Japan, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria. The Allied Powers are U.S, Britain, France, Soviet Union, Australia, Belgium, and Brazil. Adolf Hitler was the main cause because he invaded the majority of the countries in Europe. Adolf Hitler did not want Jews on the face of the earth. In our book group book, Number the Stars, it is hard for Annemarie to live in Denmark because of the racism that is going on. Annemarie's best friend Ellen is a Jew. That is why World War 2 was a hard time.

Adolf Hitler

We are learning about WW2 in social studies. I am going to blog about Adolf Hitler. Hitler was a very bad man. He had many people killed. He killed many Jews in the Holocaust. The Holocaust is when Hitler killed 12,000,000 Jews. This was a very sad time for many people. He was in charge of Germany. He was the leader of the Nazi party. He wanted to kill all Jews because he blamed them for Germany's problems. He killed people who were against this. That is why Hitler was a bad man.

SPRING BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so excited because for spring break I am going to.....DISNEY WORLD!!!!!! I am leaving on March 5th and I can't wait!!! We are going to be staying a resort called Port Orleans and it has a New Orleans theme. I have been twice before and I really like it there. We are going with about three other families. My favorite park is Magic Kingdom because it has the most rides and it is a lot of fun except that park always makes my feet really hurt.

Pizza

Today I am writing about pizza (do not ask). I think pizza is very tasty. Have you ever seen someone with broccoli or pineapple on their pizza? I am like, "What is that?" in my head. I have 2 cousins who tried it, and I think they did not like it. I like cheese pizza (do not kill me for not liking pepperoni). It is one of my favorite foods. I do not think I will ever not like pizza. So eat pizza, but do not eat too much.

           Today I am blogging about the news going around Chase Street! So, I'll start with the upcoming field trips. The first field trip we're going on is Tallulah Gorge, and then the High Museum of Art! Everybody is really excited about the field trips! Next, we are reading/finishing our book club books, called Number the Stars, and Milkweed. They are both pretty sad, and if you are not a book-crier, you will definitely cry! Lastly, Kishi Bashi came to our school and performed! I was really disappointed, because I was not here for it. That's all for now!

Bird's News Auxiliary

Hello, and Bonjour!

Today I am going to write about an assortment of things that have been going on at and around Chase Street! First off: Kishi Bashi came and played at our school! It was EPIC!!! Also, shoutout to fellow blogger Tommy H., who is currently in Paris right now!!! Another event: we have just finished our benchmarks test! I am so glad that they are OVER!!! 

We are going on two field trips soon; Tallulah Gorge and the High Museum! They sound so fun, and I only know what one place looks like. Tallulah Gorge is a mystery to us, because none of us know what it is like, so we are so excited!!

I'm glad that Benchmarks are OVER!!!

We took the benchmarks on Wednesday and Thursday. Grades 3-5 take Math and ELA. They take too long and they are BORING. We had to wait 70 minutes to turn in the math and 50 minutes to turn in ELA. Olive N. got kicked off and had to start over. A lot of people were so tired looking. The benchmarks had a lot of mistakes, like not spaces or missing words. Some of the questions were very hard and did not make any sense. I'm so glad that the benchmarks are OVER!!!

BLUE MAN GROUP!!!!!!

Last night me and fellow blogger Bird S. went to the Blue Man Group at The Classic Center!!!!!!!!!!!! It was so much fun!! If you didn't already know, the Blue Man Group is a group of  men who paint themselves blue and do drumming, funny, and art acts. My favorite act was one where they had big blow up balls that they bounced into the audience and then we got to bounce them into the theater. They also threw toilet paper and confetti in the audience. It was so much fun, and I suggest that you go to their shows.

Art Club Visitor & Valentine's Day

Bonjour everyone! 

In art club we are doing masks, but tomorrow we are starting a new project that is going to be journaling! My mom, who is a professional artist and co-head of a textile and furniture business, is doing the project! I am so excited and the project sounds so fun! Everyone is excited and I can't wait to get everyone to meet my mom! Also, I want to say that I am so excited for Valentine's Day! We are going to have a party in class tomorrow and we will give our valentines! I am making little origami envelopes with temporary tattoos inside and I hope my class likes them!

Second Halloween!!!!!

Hello!
      Today I am blogging about Second Halloween! First off, let me explain what Second Halloween is. Well, it's a made up holiday that me and my dad created, and it is a replacement holiday for Valentines Day. Me and my dad think that Valentines Day is a huge waste of time! Valentines Day is actually an old torture holiday, but as soon as people could, they turned it into a lovey happy holiday. I think that Valentines Day is very exaggerated holiday, because it is based off of commercials. Second Halloween is a great way to escape Valentines Day, and you should try it! If you see two oddballs walking around in costumes on Valentines Day, you'll know it's me and my dad!!!!

Carmen Deedy

Hey guys, 

We just got visited by the most awesomest author. Carmen Deedy! She made awesome books like Martina the Beautiful Cockroach, The Library Dragon and the sequel, The Secret of Old Zeb, and The Chesire Cheese Cat. I like Carmen Deedy a lot, and she is very funny when she tells stories. I might go and write a story. You should too!!!

Paris Then Germany

Tomorrow I am going to Paris! I can't wait! After four days I think of Paris, I'm going to Germany. But the only downfall is that the week I am gone is benchmark testing, so I have to take them now >:(. I hope that people here will miss me. But it would be benchmark testing so I don't think they will think of me. So I'm going to send them pictures so that they will think of me.

Carmen Agra Deedy

Yesterday Carmen Agra Deedy came to visit! She was super funny!  She was  the most entertaining person that I have ever seen. First she told us a funny story about a kindergartner that called her old! She also told us about a new chapter book that she is writing called Monkeyopoly. She was also very helpful about writing a story. She told us that at first, you should describe the person in the story and the setting. Another useful tip is that if you are stuck and can't figure out a good ending, then create five endings. I hope that you use these helpful tips!

Carmen Deedy

I'm going to write about the author Carmen Deedy. She wrote books like The Library Dragon and Martina The Beautiful Cockroach and many more. She was hilarious when she came to visit us. She told us about books she was working on and funny stories. She was very interesting. She hurt my side by telling us her funny stories. That is all I have to say about Carmen Deedy.

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is on Sunday. Valentine's Day is my least favorite day of the year. This holiday has so much mushiness and LOVE. On Valentine's Day I usually get presents from my parents and eat all of it. This year, I'm going to sleep all day long. I don't like the mushiness because it is very disgusting  When my mom tries to hug me I dodge. Some people think it is a pointless holiday.

THE SPELLING BEE!!!

There are 2 people left in the district spelling bee and it is very close. The Chase Street champion (Carolina T) is out for good.  It is getting hard for the spellers. Number 10 and 4 are still in. The rules are that if you get a word the other person has to spell 2 words. Number 10 was so close but spelled the second word wrong. Now they are both trying very very VERY hard to get them right.

Update: Number 10 just won the spelling bee. It was very close but Carolina got 4th or 5th place. So that is what happened in this year's district spelling bee. We are all very proud of Carolina.

District Spelling Bee

Hello! Today is the District Spelling Bee! Our very own Carolina T. is in it!!!! She has done very well, and she may have a chance to get back in!!! Just a minute ago,  Carolina got out of the spelling bee, but she did an AMAZING job!!! Some of the words were really complicated, and I was amazed at how well she spelled them. The runner up Dylan M. from the school spelling bee was also there to support Carolina. Our school, especially the 4th and 5th graders, were all cheering on Carolina.

H-E-L-L-O there,
 I'm going to tell you about the spelling bee. I'm actually watching it right now! Carolina unfortunately did not win but came in the top 4. 4 cheers for Carolina!!!! I can't wait to see the winner and I will tell you at the end of this post. And the winner is.....(drum roll please)..Number 10! Now they are giving the medals to the different people. Way to go Carolina!!!!!

District Spelling Bee

Hello! Bird here!

 Today I am have news that the whole of Chase Street is excited about...The District Spelling Bee! Our very own Carolina T. is representing our school and is in the final 4! We are so happy for her and we are watching right now! Even if she misspells a word, we are so proud of her! They were spelling some pretty hard words that we didn't even know existed! The second place winner from Chase, Dylan M., is there to support her, as well as our school cheering her on. GO CAROLINA!!!

The District Spelling Bee

The District Spelling Bee is happening right now and Carolina just got out. She was in the final 4. Carolina is a 5th grader in Ms.Thompson's class. She won the school spelling bee and she was in 4th place for the district bee. It was scary to watch because she could have gotten out in the beginning. The words are so hard, even Ms.Thompson did not know them. It was really stressful for Carolina because she had to practice a lot. She did great. Three cheers for CAROLINA!!!!!
